down with mp3!

ok, i want to try something while everyone is on the mp3 wagon (i know, i'm a rebel ) i have mp3's galore, and i want to convert them into wma to conserver precious space on my 256. i've looked though wmp 10 (desktop) for conversion tools, but doesn't have it. i've googled it, and they only come up with wma to mp3 or wav and crap. what gives? is wma that bad?

Before you do this- have you considered ogg? You can get file sizes 1/3 the size of mp3 at 128kb- with the same sound as the 128. I love this format! And proggies like pocket player and pocketmusic will let you use yoiur equalizer for this format- to make it sound even better. I'll not go back willingly!! ~Anne

Thanks!!

And I use a free app called Media Monkey This works on your pc- converts from most formats to most formats- including ogg vorbis. You might need the actual codecs on your pc- try here-ogg codec Hope this helps!

You're better to re-encode from the original media if you have it. Going from one lossy format to another just increases the loss with each iteration.

You might want to check out "Cheetah Audio Converter" - it's free, @ download.com i think. It's a very cut down program - there's only 3 or 4 options, and its a drag/drop interface, but it's very efficient and stable. and free ;)

you are gonna lose big on quality by making mp3s into another lossy format

best off to keep the mp3s you have and encode all new material to something else.

unless, that is, you have the originals from your current collection

Will the freeware PocketMusic play .ogg or do you need the full version?
