Exclamation Optimal betaplayer buffer size

Does any one know what is the optimal normal buffer size for betaplayer. If your answer is it depeneds, then please more clear on what it depends on? what is the downside of having too high of a buffer? I am trying to play .avi files that are taken directly from the laptop without using conversion softwares like PocketDivxPro. I would like to play the files directly from the 4GB microdrive I have installed. by the way, anyone can tell me if microdrive mode has been working smoothly for them? becuase I read from the betaplayer forum that some have been having problems with it.

Typical files I want to play:

Video codec: DIvx and Xvid
Bit rate: 934 kb/s
FPS: 23.976
Resolution: 640x480

Audio: MP3 160 kb/s bitrate 48000hz

Appreciate your help

I leave it on the default Microdrive settings and I can play 1100 kbps Divx with 128kbps audio with no problems. The downside is, with the stock battery, I only get about 1.5 hours of playback time from the Microdrive, so an extra battery or the extended battery are a must.

I have no problems with playback from the microdrive either. I'm getting closer to 2 hour total playback....mines a smaller drive.

The higher bitrate file you try to play the quicker your battery drains video or audio. If you encode to the lowest bitrate you can tolerate your battery will last longer than playing the highest bitrate that your ppc can handle. Vga videos drain your battery 4 times faster than qvga.

What the heck do you guys use that gives you such a high Data Bit Rate? I use fairuse and get 128kbit/s according to BataPlayetr and everything looks fine. Is there an advantage to the higher Data Bit Rate?

I've got dozens of Divx files that I encoded for use on the PC; I don't want to go through the hassle of reencoding them to a lower bitrate for use on the Axim. Also, I need something to fill up that microdrive. :)

exactly my reason what good is a 4GB microdrive if I have to go through each video I have and convert it into smaller files with lower quality and bitrate. I thought the microdrive mode in betaplayer is specifically there to help reduce the rate of battery drainage. Anyway, I will have to test it my self I guess.

we are not talking about the data bit rate you see in betaplayer as that is for the audio and you are right 128kbit/s for audio is plenty. But for the video, I think that is really bad. Betaplayer does not show your video bit rate under media info, if you want to check yours, drag and drop your video file on Gspot on your desktop computer and see what it shows under video bitrate.
