Tivo Desktop 2.1 released (Tivo - PPC)
I haven't seen this posted yet, but it seems a new version of Tivo Desktop 2.1 was released yesterday. Claims to be able to allow transfer of .tivo files to PPC via WMP10. :approve:
I am testing it now with a half hour Scrubs show I had on my computer form before. It is 1.27GB to start with and WMP is in the process of "converting" it now. I will report back when it is done.

Holy carp! That is killer. Where in the 2.1 software did you find that you can push to your ppc? I'm a work and cannot wait to dl and try this ASAP. Talk about a KILLER feature.
Thanks for the heads up!

I've been working to try to get this working on a DirecTiVo. Not with the tivo version, but using other apps out there...still working on it.

OK, so I did one. Half hour show was 800+ MB now it is 120MB and sync to my CF card. Plays fine in WMP10. Quality looks good and sound is fine. Big donwsite is the transfer time using WMP with the Axim in the cadle. I will have to try with a card reader next. Otherwise, I am still looking into why the first one didn't work. My guess is maybe because it was a several month old recording or it was to big (I hope it is not that) But I will be testing more. Enjoy!~

Hey FlyACL
Wanted to see how you did with the tivo to ppc conversion. I did read that is was successful on 1 out of 2 tries. I just recieved my 1 gig CF card so I can start transferring my files to my ppc. I have a tivo and was wondering about that when I read your post.
I also read that when using dvd to ppc conversions you can expect on middle the road settings 1mb to 1 min conversions, if I remember correctly. You stated a 30 min show of scrubs took 120mb.
Just wanted to get your thoughts. I think I'm going to buy Power DVD for my conversions. I tried unsuccessfuly and spent several hours to to use freeware and a 3 or 4 step process (kinda wish I could regain those several hours of my life and paid the $32 up front, but I guess we could say that about alot of technology that's unfamiliar).
I'm going to post this on your thread as well. Hope to hear from you soon.

If you use the new Tivo Desktop software (ver. 2.1) and transfer the shows via WMP10, you don't need to buy anything. That is if your only goal is to get the shows to your Axim. If you want to burn them to DVD that is another story.
All I did was transfered a show using the new Tivo desktop software. Opened WMP and added it to my video library, then added it to my Sync list. Then synced my Axim with WMP10 just like you would with music. What I got was a good quality video that plays on WMP on my Axim. It went form about 800MB to around 120MB for a 30 min show. I have not tried any others yet. But I can let you know how it goes when I do.
Good Luck~

Great.. so this will allow you to transfer the file and "convert" it down from a large file size to a small one?
Also.. never having used the tivo-to-go desktop... do I basically just install the desktop software, find my tivo, pick a program to save to PC, wait..., then choose that file on my PC via WMP and synch?
I've read a lot about using pocket DVD, Dr Divx, etc etc.. if this is so easy, why is everyone trying to go about it without tvtg desktop?
Many thx!!

Because Tivo Desktop 2.1 just came out and is the first version to support this feature.

Wanted to report some failures and some success. Had trouble at first transferring tivo files to ppc using wm10 but i downloaded an updated codec and was able to convert a 3.7gb tivo file directly to my axim x50v. It wound up shrinking it down to 147mb, quite a shrinking job and the quality is fantastic. I'm very happy with the tivo to go (finally!) :approve:

Hi.. I guess I need some more clarification. I have a .tivo file that is 1.6GB (1 hour show) that I can view no problem on the PC.
Now.. I want to get it over to the Axim.. So.. how do I do this?
Also, what if I want to just transfer it to a card reader directly to avoid the activesynch slowdowns..?
And.. how do I reduce the size of that file? 1.6 GB for 1 hour is obviously too large.
Thanks for all the help!

You had the idea in your previous post. But here you go~
1. Open WMP10
2. Find your show, right click and choose "Add to Sync List"
3. Go to the Sync Tab, on the left is your show on the right is your Axim info. If you want to use a card reader put it in your reader and use the pull down menu on the right to select your drive.
4. Click the "sync" button in the upper right corner
That is it. The file will be "converted" then synced. The only problem I have with the "system" is the file size listed on the right panel next to your show is not the final file size that will be on your Axim. No where does it give you even an idea of what the size might be. So make sure you have a bunch of room.
A 30 min show took me about 5 minutes to "convert" and the sync will depend on if you use a reader or not. Using ActiveSync it can take some time (hours). Using a reader it transfered in about 15 seconds.
To watch your file, open WMP on your Axim and form the library screen choose my Videos, all videos, and there it is. If it does not show up you can try the "Update Library" thing or just use the "open..." command to find your file.
Good Luck~

Great.. many thx Adam.. I think I was confused because I didn't have the ActiveSynch option in WMP on my desktop.. I was using WMP 9! I'll upgrade to 10 and that should do it.
When I choose the synch.. can I just choose to save it directly to the memory card in my card reader? That would save a ton of time. I've noticed many programs that I download require that you use activesynch to install the program... even if you are installing to the memory card. Would be nice if you could just install things directly to the memory card in the reader and avoid activesynch.. can you?
Sorry for being such a noob.! Thx again..

Yeah, it does require WMP10. To tell you the truth out side of the very long transfer times using ActiveSync, the sync feature in WMP10 works well. It is the eaiser way to get your album art transfered as well when you are doing music. To answer you question about the card reader, it is very easy. Just put your card in the reader and select it form the pull down menu on the right side of the sync page. Like I said before it took me about 5 minutes to "convert" the 30 min show and about 15 seconds to transfer it using a card reader.
As a side note I have found under the options settings in WMP10 where you can let it do the conversion in auto or you can tell it what quality you want. The lowest settings says 21MB per hour. So maybe some playing around in there will give us a better idea of the final file size and maybe kick up the quality some.
Good Luck~

Well.. I failed to get the TIVO file over to the x50v!! I updated to WMP10 on the PC, and saw the new synch tab.. I'm thinking - great - very nice! So.. I put the SD card in the reader, clicked the 1.6GB Tivo show and clicked the synch button. It looked like it was going to work... but then BANG:
I got that dreaded "threw an exception" error!
I've been checking all the tivo boards and this seems to be a reoccuring problem... but no one has a surefire solution.
Any advice? I'm very surprised TIVO made this process such a hassle.. oh well.. any help would be appreciated! Thx!
