MP3 is a compressed format.. I use CDex to convert my CDs into MP3 files.
I use Fairuse to convert my DVDs to AVIs that Betaplayer can play

Yep, the memory hit on listening to WAV files is just too great. I prefer Ogg Vorbis myself, with VBR encoding. I think it sounds better than MP3 for the same bitrate.
But I don't compress MPEGs any further, I find the Xvid compression is small enough with suitably high quality for TCPMP (Betaplayer).

I used MPEG4 (AAC).
I think the only common uncompressed formats are: CD Audio (CD-DA) WAV There are other lossless but compressed formats like FLAC Then there are the lossy compressed formats like MP3 WMA AAC OGG etc.

Saying compressed probably wasn't what I meant to get across. I was trying to see if you guys lower the bitrate to decrease the actual size of the mpeg or wmv file. Do any of you do that?

You mean re-encode it?
I don't. You only want to encode from the source media once. It's like if you photocopy a photograph there is a reduction in quality right? then if you photocopy that photograph again (at the same resolution) there is further reduction. Photocopy it again at a lower resolution and result is still worse than if you had photocopied the original at the low resolution. Every time you encode or re-encode you reduce the quality. So if you encode at 128Kb/s and then re-encode at 64Kb/s to save space, the result will be a worse file than if encoded from the original CD at 64Kb/s. That example is for music. For video the same thing applies. You can re-encode to save space, but you are better to encode at the "final" bit rate from the source.

Ok, so how would you re-encode an mpeg file then?

MPEG covers a lot of ground. Is it an MPEG video file or an MPEG audio file?

You could use iTunes to re-encode it to a lower bitrate.

Oh duh, of course! I totally forgot iTunes could do that! Thanks for the eye opener.
