I was looking for a way to comvert my .mpg files to .wmv files and stumbled on to Windows media encoder 9.whatever. I encoded an mpg using the wizard and when I transfered it to my Axim, only the video worked. I uploaded it back to the pc and checked it in WMP 9 and both audio and video worked fine. So the question is... am I doing something wrong (i.e. settings) or is the PPC version of Media Player unable to interpret the version 9 audio codec? I am able to get around it by using Windows Movie Maker to encode the files but Windows Media Encoder would make the process simpler.
Thanks for any help, Chris

The exact same thing happend to me. After I uploaded the video (using Media player on my PC) I couldn't get sound out of the PPC video. I closed all running programs and then went to Start--->setting-->sound options. Low and behold all the audio options were unclicked for some reason. Checked back all the boxes and the sound was all good
.If that fails a soft reset couldn't hurt. If that fail microsoft has pages on its support site.

This was not the issue in my case... I can play my wmv encoded in WME 9 on WMP 9 for the pc but only the video will play in PPC version of WMP. I suspect this is an isuue withe PPC version OF WMP not recognizing the audio codec that WME 9 uses for audio.
Has anyone got it to work successfully?

I downloaded Windows Media Encoder 9 earlier today and am having no problems playing video with sound on WMP9. I accepted all the defaults including CD quality sound. I am running on a 400 Mhz Advanced with Mindows Mobile 2003 with the A05 patch installed. I have the processor set to maximum performance and I'm very impressed with how smooth video playback is. I am currently encoding a movie using widescreen (320 x 240) resolution - I will be interested to see how it compares.

Actually, you have to change the PocketPC settings to use 44 khz format from the defaul 48 khz.
See Microsoft's support site document.

I figured this out awhile ago. If you are running WM2003 you want to encode with Video Codec Media 9 and Audio Codec Media 7. If you are running PPC2002 you want to encode Video Codec Media 8 and Audio Codec Media 7. It's weird, though they updated the video codec, they skipped the audio. Go figure.
