Best DVD to PPC encoder?

I'm thinking of watching some DVDs on my X50v and was wondering which encoder would be best? I've seen Pocket DVD Wizard, Pocket DVD Studio, DVD to Pocket PC etc. Can anyone offer any recommendations? TIA!

OOh... I'm downloading LE now. It says that I cannot get encodings which are larger than 700MB in size. This is a stupid question, I know, but does that refer to the size of the final file, i.e. I can only encode a DVD into a file which is less than 700MBs?

DVDx is awesome - powerful but a little complicated unlss you know what you are doing. Also free with no limitations.

PocketDivXEncoder is also good and free.

Cheers
Adrian

I'm pretty sure that that is the final size.. But on your pda you don't need everything turned up to the max.. so you can shrink the file size below what you would view on a 42" TV screen,

Besides 700mb takes up a large chunk of even the largest Flash card

Yeah, I'll say it does take a large chunk! In light of Andy's response about not maxing out the quality I will share what I normally do with encoding.

Basically for viewing at 720x??? (where ??? is determined by the aspect ratio) you should aim for about 600kbps 2 pass encoded.

At 640x??? you can proably go back to 500kbps and keep the same quality. Also reduce your audio quality to 96kbps or 128kbps stereo. There is no point having 6 channel audio on a Axim

At 320x??? you can proably go as low as 200kbps and still have good quality picture.

Have fun playing
Cheers
Adrian

I use the DVDShrink & PocketDiviXEncoder for watching movies on my X50v. Both of them are free. Check out this tutorial on "How to Rip your favorite DVD to PPC by Crash613".

Also, you can read this excellent tutorial on "How to Burn & Turn your PocketPC into a Portable Theatre by BengalBoy"

See my sig and use FairUse, follow the FairUse walkthough, and watch the movies on BetaPlayer. You will be happy with the results. The 700 MB is the final file size. You don't really want them that big for your Axim anyway. A good rule of thumb is 100MB per 30 min of video. But you can make them what ever you want. Just remember a 400MB movie will look better then a 100MB movie. But both will play nicely on your Axim. Good Luck~

I use Dvd Decrypter and AutoGordian Knot. I like AutoGK for it's queueing feature. I rip a few to my hard disk with Decrypter and let AutoGK convert overnight. Fair Use is good too.

I downloaded and installed FairUse LE. Was about to encode a DVD before my wife asked to use the PC to Yahoo Message her friends. Oh well... will have to try tonight.
