I have to admit I'm not sure why WMP Mobile is being so stubborn, I know it's a version specific problem as the PC versions of Media Player give very mixed results as well (v6 fails, v7 ???, v9 & v10 both work just fine). The MMS streaming code in VideoLAN is definitely not complete as MS has never released a public specification, I know the Streaming Download Project has released a reverse-engineered MMS specification that could be more fully implemented by the VLC coders. In all honesty I doubt there is much interest in seriously supporting MMS streaming as it's platform dependent, closed source and if someone really wnats to use it they can download Windows Media Encoder for free.
