I am trying to stream live tv to my axim with videolan

I have videolan (vlc) up and running and streaming accross my network. For some reason I can't get it to stream to my axim tho. I did a properties of windows media player 10 whlie i was streaming to show everyone the properties.

when I 'open url' in windows media player mobile to: mms://172.20.8.32:8080 (just like the screenshot) the axim just sits there with no response.

Anyone know why?

Have you tried the PPC version of VLC? Perhaps that might work better. I've been successful at using VLC from laptop to PC but am still working on PPC.

You may already be doing this but try messing arround with the exactness of your 'url'. In the picture there is another slash after the port number. You may also try changing it to http and change the port number.

Ya, ived tried the vlc client from them. They have daily compilations of it, but the software seems buggy as hell.

Yeah, I agree. Have you been using the transcoding options?

I've tried port 8080 and 1234 using mms to stream. I have also tried http to stream the data and connect via http://172.20.8.32:8080

Yes, I am using trancoding. I am acually messing with the settings right now trying to find a working combination.

I wish I could find specs for windows media player 10 mobile.

I hooked up a laptop wirelessly using windows media player 10 and it connected fine as well.

this problem HAS to be associated with media player 10 mobile. I just have to find the solution.

Would you mind breaking down this code? My settings will obviously be different but I don't know how to change them.

Thanks.

EDIT: Did you just copy this directly from the VLC settings?

Okay here is detailed info on what I did. Keep in mind you will need to change these settings for your user and your ip/port settings:

System Specs:
Gentoo Linux (kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r4)
emerged vlc-0.8.1-r1

Before I emerged vlc I put this line in /etc/portage/package.use
Code:
media-video/vlc dvd ffmpeg mpeg mad wxwindows aac dts a52 ogg flac theora oggvorbis matroska freetype bidi xv svga gnutls stream vlm httpd cdda vcd cdio live
The first thing I did once vlc was installed was open the GUI in KDE 3.4, created a playlist, and saved it as vlc.playlist.m3u in my users home directory. The following is just one of my entries for Pocket PC
Code:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,Channel 07 NBC (Detroit) (Pocket PC)
#EXTVLCOPT:sout=#transcode{vcodec=DIV3,acodec=mp3,vb=2000,ab=128}:std{access=http,mux=asf,url=172.20.8.32:8080}
v4l:/dev/video:norm=ntsc:frequency=175250:size=320x240:channel=0:adev=/dev/dsp:audio=0
Then here is the command that I used to run vlc (jbroadway is my user):
Code:
/usr/bin/vlc -I http --http-src /usr/share/vlc/http/ --http-host 172.20.8.32:8000 -vvv --color /home/jbroadway/vlc.playlist.m3u
After all this is done, you should be able to open up Betaplayer (I am using 0.9 unstable currently) and open http://172.20.8.32:8080

The stream should work, and you should see your axim connect in the console window after you run the vlc command.

Now, the -I http --http-src /usr/share/vlc/http/ --http-host 172.20.8.32:8000 part of the command used to run vlc starts the http interface. You should be able to access http://172.20.8.32:8000 in Internet Explorer. Anything that you have in your playlist should be listed on this page. You can change the channel by simply clicking on the entry in the playlist that you need.

One major problem I ran into is the frequency to use for each channel. Here is a frequency table that I found for the United States
Code:
#ifndef _FREQ_TBL_H
# define _FREQ_TBL_H

#define NTSC_BCAST	1
#define NTSC_CABLE	2
#define NTSC_HRC	3
#define NTSC_BCAST_JP	4
#define NTSC_CABLE_JP	5

Wow, that went way above my head!

Are you streaming from an http server? Have you tried UDP (which is where I'm at)?

yes streaming via http. I have more then one device I stream to so I don't use UDP. Plus I don't think UDP will work with betaplayer.

I change the channels using the built in http interface via internet explorer.
