Frustrating WME error when encoding DVD

I'm working through converting DVDs to "Axim-able" WMVs and have come up on a brick wall. I ripped my DVD to a VOB file with no problem, configured WME with no problems, and even started encoding successfully once. Because there was much going on in my house at the time, I cancelled the encoding and came back to it late last night when things had settled down and everyone else was in bed. I configured WME once more, but when I started encoding, WME gave me the following error: "0xC00D0BC2, the requested audio codec is not installed on this system." That's where I'm stuck! I've googled the error and searched Microsoft's help sites to no avail. What codec am I missing? Any ideas on a fix?

P.S. I did see something about DMO versus ACM codecs, but that meant nothing to me. Does it to you?

Check my sig for info on using FairUse to convert DVDs. No need to rip or anything. Just the DVD and FairUse. The walkthrough is real easy to follow. You end up with a .avi file you can play in BetaPlayer. I find this much better then anything I play in WMP.

Good Luck, sorry I could not help with the WME thing. I just don't use anything but FairUse.

Thanks for your response. I read your walkthrough early on in my attempts to do this encoding thing but decided to try WME first. I generally like to use native aps (i.e. WMP) versus third-party software (i.e. BetaPlayer), thus my foray into WME. If I can't solve this error, though, I'll probably go your way. Since the FairUse procedure results in an .avi file, couldn't I play it in WMP on my Axim? I certainly can play .avi files in WMP on my PC...

No you will have to use BetaPlayer. But like I said before most people around here feel BetaPlayer is much better then WMP for playing movies. I can see no reason to try and stick with the "native" player. Trust me WMP is a poor app compaired to what is out there. And BetaPlayer is free so it is even better. Of all the software I own I would consider BetaPlayer to be #1 on the list. Good Luck with what ever you decide to do. Who knows, maybe the 50,000 (??) people using BetaPlayer are wrong as we will all switch back to WMP. :)

Well, I broke down and tried FairUse and BetaPlayer. It worked like a charm...almost. I downloaded and installed the latest UNstable version of BetaPlayer--and immediately lost several installed programs and my entire BIS. BIS didn't just lose some files, it disappeared completely from my Axim. Fortunately, I had just backed-up for the very first time earlier in the day, and a restore recovered everything. I uninstalled BetaPlayer and re-installed the latest stable version. My FairUse-converted movie played great, even over my WiFi connection. Thanks for the recommendation. I'd still like to solve the WME error, but this works great!

I realize this is an ancient thread, but after spending 2 days trying to fix the exact same problem on my machine I thought I should share the solution.

Basically, save the attached file to disk, rename it to .reg, and run it.

The regfile performs the following operations:
* registers wma encoder objects
* adds wma encoders to list of directshow media objects
* adds wma encoders to directshow audio encoders category

Note: if you didn't install windows on the C drive, you'll have to edit the reg file and update the path to wmadmoe.dll.
Attached Files:
File Type: txt wma-compression-fix.reg.txt (1.8 KB, 85 views)

How do you do this step by step please?
