Betaplayer codecs

Well - i assume that betaplayer plays MOVs as it comes up in the open window so im wondering, i have a video encoded in saverson video 3 codec and some other audio codec- is there any way of getting these for beta player.

i tried to convert it but ended up with a rediculously large file size. i know that the codecs come default on the latest offering of quicktime for windows.

Try version 0.50b UNSTABLE. Can't hurt, might help.

There is a common misunderstanding that because Betaplayer can parse the Quicktime container format that it can also play the contents, this is not the case. Sorenson video is not supported by Betaplayer (neither is the QDesign Audio Codec which is also common in MOV files) and according to Picard probably never will be.

To convert such a video requires a 2 step conversion process as Quicktime for Windows has pretty poor AVI support. The huge file that you got from your first conversion attempt is most likely an Uncompressed AVI which is the first step. Take that file and recompress it to DivX, XviD or MPEG1 with a tool like VirtualDub or Dr. Divx, this will produce a file that is both small and compatible with Betaplayer. Most video compression questions can be answered by heading over to VideoHelp.com and taking a look through the guides section.

um no the file was a compressed WMV - with 320x240 resolution and same quality level as the original video. it came out to 115mb where the quicktime was 24 which was strange.

Your definition of ridiculously large is clearly a lot different to mine. Resolution has little to do with total filesize it is the bitrate that the video is encoded at that defines how large or small the output file will be. Bearing that in mind the size increase is not at all strange as Windows Media is simply doing the best it can within the parameters it has been given.

Knowing what you know now, what exactly do you want to do with this video?

Yes it is, the changes are listed here, it says 0.51 in that page but I have tried some of the fixes listed and they work on 0.50b.
