Support for WMV files..?

Hi, I have been looking forever to figure out it I can get Betaplayer to play WMV files on my ppc. I found this link that was supposed to have it : http://forge.topcat.hu/frs/?group_id=5 , but it is down... Anyway, could anyone give me help with this?

If not, could you possibly point me tto a player that does support WMV files BESIDES WMP10???

(Or if you have the plugin, sending it to me would be great)

Thanks a bunch.
Paul

If I remember right the plugin depended upon a codec already installed by the PPC2002 OS.
That codec is no longer necessary or is different in WM2003 so the BetaPlayer plugin no longer works.
Or maybe it was WM2003 vs WM2003SE.

Betaplayer plays WMA files (both audio and video) just fine. It`s not as good as PocketMusic mediawise, but I havn`t had any technical problems.
I guess, the only problem that you may have is DRM protection. Did you try to play some files that you bought from an on-line music store?

WMA = audio
WMV = video

Under WM2003SE, BetaPlayer does not play WMVs recorded with the Windows Media Video 8 codec.
It used to because this codec used to be provided by the OS.

CORRECTION:
BetaPlayer depends on the codecs installed with WMP8/9.
These same codecs are not the same under WMP10 and there lies the problem.

It isn't the x50 but it is the new version of WMP10 that causes the problem.

Errrrrrrr, anyway, is there a way to FIX this? Or are we just stuck with it...

If not, what other programs play WMV (Windows Media Video) files on ppc?

I have an axim x50 mid.

Mayber we could find a downgrade to wmp9 or find the codec for it, it would work...

No there is no fix, the assumption has always been that since WMP comes bundled with Windows based PDAs there really isn't any demand for an alternative player. FFMPEG support is planned for Betaplayer (which includes support for WMV/WMA without using any Microsoft libraries) but that could take a while as it is not in the interests of an open source project to promote a closed source video/audio format.

There is no WMP9 for the X50 and even if there was it still wouldn't work as the required libraries need to be in fixed locations within the ROM which would mean overwriting the current libraries and breaking WMP10 in the process.

BetaPlayer has been updated and WMV support is now included for WMP10 users (you need the ffmpeg plugin).
It has been renamed 'TCPMP' and can be found here:
