MP3 player with "master tempo"
Hello,

I've just ordered my X50 low.

I will use it at dance courses. I will need a mp3 player for that.

The most important feature I'm looking for is the capability to play an mp3 at a lower speed (the feature named "master tempo" on DJ's consolle).

Is there any PPC player with this feature?

Thanks in advance for your precious hints!

I think Viito Sound Explorer can do that.

VITO SoundExplorer can sort of do it but it is not variable when using master tempo (pitch lock), you can only set it to 50% or 100%. With master tempo turned off it is fully variable from 50% to 200%.

asylumxl: It's not the same thing, master tempo (aka pitch lock) allows you to adjust the playing speed and pitch independently of each other, it's a feature found on CD players designed for DJ use like the Pioneer CDJ-1000.

When I was a DJ back in the 70's all I had was 2 turntables and a microphone. Well at home I had reverb and 8 track, cassette, turntables and no microphone; A Pioneer receiver with Jensen Speakers let me put that all tobether but it's absolutely amazing to me that the mistakes(?) I made back then turned into a genre.

I'm not taking credit for hip-hop mind you, but I can assure you it started way back when funk and disco had their battle. I was a Funkateer to the end. The only guy I really met from Parliment/Funkadelic was the diaper guy who would take it off and just groove with the audience when he didn't have anything to play or sing. Laid right down beside me in White Stadium.

Does anyone still just mix songs?

and.. I wouldn't recommend VITO products.. I have the SoundExplorer and while the program itself is ok - the support from VITO is abysmal! Go and read their forums.. most are basically "we don't have time for that".. Most issues go unresolved for months.. anyway... just thought I'd let you know.

So that's what this is -> <- Who would have guessed that The Mothership Connection meant WiFi

...and yes DJs still play actual songs, it's just a lot more convenient to carry a CD wallet or Laptop rather than lugging 30kgs of vinyl around with you.

It seems like the vinyl guys have become turntablists. Musicians in their own right. I don't envy them.

Dancers, now that's a healthy profession!

How would you use Mmaster tempo luis69?, speed the music up, or slow it down?

At dance courses (caribbean dance) I would need to slow it down. But in our ballrooms, DJs often speed the music up.

How does the pitch lock algorithm work? Is there any library I could use to build a small player (with such feature) within the .net compact framework and/or java?

I like your enthusiasm!

Well for MP3 decoding there is the MAD library which is used in a lot of free music players, time-stretching/pitch-shifting code is available via either the SoundTouch Audio Processing Library or the DIRAC LE Library which is available at http://www.dspdimension.com. DSPDimension also has a lot of indepth information on this subject - more than anyone except real DSP freaks will ever need.

Good Luck

Play speed feature
Hello,

as far as I can see here

http://www.conduits.com/products/player/plugins.asp

Pocket Player has a plugin for time stretching (look for "Stretch DSP" within the page). It is written to be based on the LGPL SoundTouch library.

I don't use Pocket Player and I would like to either stay with WMP or Betaplayer, that I currently use.

As far as you know, is there any plug in (based on the LGPL SoundTouch library?) for WMP or Betaplayer.

If not, does anybody use Pocket Player with the "Stretch DSP" plugin? Does this feature work fine?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
