That would be Betaplayer. :) I don't think betamax was involved.

No problem. I hope they're not still using Betamax!

TCPMP for PocketPeeC can be found here. http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download Can someone tell me how well it works. It probably runs better on my Zodiac than a PocketPC because the Zodiac has an ATI graphics chip and TCPMP supports it.(Taplanders gave Picard[TCPMP maker] a free Zodiac 2 and cash)

I will try it on a friend's PocketPC in about a month.

You check the benchmark summary pages at:
http://blogs.shintak.info/articles/667.aspx
http://blogs.shintak.info/articles/4567.aspx (RL_XQ sample is not benchmarked on Palm OS devices in this summary)

As you can see most VGA PPCs are better as the Zodiac. Especially the X50v with Intel 2700G chip.

I think that TCPMP was originally created for the Pocket PC, under the name "Betaplayer," at which point Picard (person posting above) then recreated it under a new name for the Palm OS. Now TCPMP is out for Pocket PC and Palm devices.

Picard, how different is it to program for the Palm versus the Pocket PC? I'm wondering why most software companies choose one or the other.

Lego, we're not going to pick on your Zodiac with 10MB RAM and 420x320 screen...so please don't try to bait us with your goofy insults on the device of our choice (i.e. PocketPeeC). This is a site with very little bickering, and if it happens, it's at the water fountain, or between a user and a moderator. Otherwise, this is a pretty happy family.

By the way, you are aware of the specifications of the current Axim family, aren't you? Including the VGA screen of the X50v or the 624 MHz processor on the X50v and the X30?

Oh yes...Picard...TCPMP .66 works great. Thank you again for your efforts, and I encourage everyone to consider a donation towards the project.

I have a question about what you said. "Zodiac with 10MB RAM" The Zodiac 1 has 10mb of heap ram, and then 32mb of storage ram. The Zodiac 2 has 128mb of storage ram by the way. I did look at screenshots of videos on VGA PocketPCs and they look beautiful.[Better than my Zodiac]

At the moment user interface is little different. There are less user options in the Palm OS version. But the "core" is the same.

I was basing the statement off of your profile, which describes your Zodiac. I guess I've never heard the term "heap RAM" before. I believe that x50v models have 64MB of RAM and then 128MB ROM, not to mention SD and CF capability, as well as integrated wi-fi/bluetooth, and the very cool VGA-out function (which I use a lot as a teacher).

My main concern was the pot-shots you seemed to be taking towards PPCs in general, on a Dell Axim 100% PPC board. It didn't/doesn't make much sense to me.

The video is very nice on X50v models, and most folks with X50s and X30s (and even X3s and X5s) are pretty happy as well. The main complaints with the X50v tend to be speed (I believe the general thought is that the superior video comes at a performance price, even with the Intel 2700g graphics processor--or that programs just aren't written to utilize the X50v's strengths) and battery life. Neither is enough of an issue for me to go elsewhere or look for another solution, other than a future model of Dell PPC.

By the way, in regards to my speed statement above, please remember Picard's previous note that the X50v has some of the best performance times with (formerly) Betaplayer and TCPMP.
