best video/dvd converter in terms of compression and quality?
Hi, i'm looking to put some tv shows/movies etc onto my x30h. I look thru handango and the forums, and there seems to be mixed opinions on a lot of the available converters. Basically, i'm looking for one that can compress the max number of say, 700mb divx, files into my 1 gb sd card, while maintaining acceptable quality.
I'm looking at pocket dvd studio 3.5 or dvd to pocket pc 2.5... are these good program?
ps: are there such programs that can compress mp3 files as well, that'll still play on the pda?

I like PocketDVD Studio for its speed, ease of use, and output quality.
I haven't tried the other that you mentuioned.
If you decide to go for PDS check eBay -- it's cheaper than Handango.

Check out my tutorials on how to do this for free...Or another commercial software to check out is PocketDVD1.1. It has a free 5 day trial and only cost 12.50 if you decide to buy it.
Links are in my Sig.

Try Lathe. I tried the others and could not get the output quality I wanted. After just 2 trial runs Lathe did the job. Also only $5.95.

FairUse is a GREAT program. But what if you are working with mpegs from your DVR? Any suggestions? I have been using Lathe with good results but I am always looking for something better.

I have Tivo and WMP will let you "Sync" them just like you do with music. It will compress and transfer it. The only problem is you don't have hardly any control. It just does it. But works.

I have tried that but the file size is MUCH larger than other programs I have tried outputing AVIs. Lathe is working pretty good but, like I said, I am always looking for something better. A FairUse for mpegs would be PERFECT :) :)

Have you considered NeroDigital? The quality is incredible and it implements the latest MPEG-4 (H.264 standard) technology and AAC audio format. NeroDigital AVC files play fine in TCPMP.

I go with pocketDVD1.1, and can get the pacifier to 159 megs at good quality.
You should try the 5-day trial and if you don't like it then pm me for settings that you should use, i have the full version and love to monkey around with it.

k, i can't even get pocketdvd 1.1 to work. i made a file from i think a dvix file, but it doesn't show up on my storage card in the pda. that was the first try. now it just gives me an error when i click 'encode' or whatever the button is, and exits out of that dos like program.
??? gonna try fairuse tomorrow, no time today.

I use PocketDivxEncoder. free, fast, fairly idiot-proof and great quality.

WOW. I just tried NeroDigital and you are right...the quality is incredible. Fast too! My first recode was the 2 hour final "LOST" episode. The final file was just under 190meg. Looked a little blury so I re-did it at a target size of 400meg (100 meg/30 min) which is the size I used to try other software. The quality is VERY nice. Better than most of the others and faster than all of them. Do you have any tips on using NeroDigital you would share? And thanks for the suggestion.
