Need a gif viewer for large images >17000 x 9000 pixels
I have painstakingly scanned in a fold-up map of an area lake and put it on my axim as a gif at 96 dpi. Now I need a viewer I can use to scroll around and view it. I can change it to tif if necessary...it is b&w. Any suggestions?
Thanks. - Kelly | |||||

Here's a few to try...
Here are a few free programs:http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=761 http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=62 If neither of these work, you could try creating an HTML document with the image, and use Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) to view the image. Hope I helped a little. ![]()

I'd recommend converting the document to a PDF or, even better, Repligo format since those viewers ar meant to handle large documents and use good non-lossy compression to keep file size down. I can convert it to Repligo for you since I own the program and you can just download their free viewer.

The invention of the flamethrower suggests that someone thought, "you know, I'd really like to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just too lazy to walk."

Thanks for the suggestion and offer. I own Acrobat 6 so let me try that first. The gif is 9 meg so its going to be a bit of a monster I think. I already have the free pdf reader installed. If the resulting pdf file is too large I may get back with you and try the Repligo route.
Thanks again, - Kelly | |||||

If that doesnt work, It would be easy enough to write a program to load the image and allow you to scroll around.

I did have to crop the image...my machine complained about not having enough ram (1GB ram and double 2.8Ghz processors running XP pro). Anyway, I have 'most' of the map I use anyway and the filesize is cut in half. I will say redrawing speed is pathetic, but what can you expect from a handheld? Beats not having it at all.
Thanks for the support. - Kelly
