I just downloaded the latest TCPMP (formerly known at betaplayer) and most of my audio files no longer play (m4a files). Come to find out, the IP holders of the AAC algorithm asked TCPMP to remove support, and they did! My hand is forced, I can no longer use TCPMP as most of my audio library is in AAC format, and to convert to another format would reduce quality. But I so want to use TCPMP. Is there no recourse for me? How can I play AAC in TCPMP now?
Wow.. that sucks... Heh ok for me, I still got the one that does play it - it think?
If you want it I will host it somewhere..
Has the AAC plugin gone? Or does it just not work anymore? Maybe we can still use the plugin with the new versions?

No, trust me, it won't work. Someone, try a completely fresh install of the latest download of TCPMP and all available plugins (for pocket pc), and see if it will play an AAC .m4a. It won't.

Its pretty simple...just go back and install the last version that worked for you.

Thanks for the download... that did the trick. I had made the mistake of waiting a while to download TCPMP (I was still using an old Betaplayer), so I have no older version of TCPMP to use.
well, let's all bask in the early days of BetaPLayer.
My bet is the narcs/whiners/big babies who had an issue with including AAC support will follow suit and file complaints with all the other so-called proprietary formats until TCPMP becomes nothing more than an MP* Player.
The narcs/whiners/big babies could be the actual owners of the AAC MPEG-4 standard (Dolby I think). AAC is not a free format. To include the codec for distribution with the player the writers of TCPMP need to pay licencing fees to the owners of the licence.
I don't think there is anything "babyish" about it. It's business. Maybe the author of TCPMP can find out how much the licencing is and the people who want to include AAC playback can purchase a version with the codec included for a nominal fee. Or maybe the codec is ridiculously expensive. Who knows :)

I don't really see the problem. Why don't they want it in Betaplayer? It not like it competing with 'their' Pocket PC AAC player is it. They are not gonna make any money out of us anyway by just imposing their copyrights on and crippling one of the best free programs about.

I don't think they do want to make any money out of us. But unless they do defend (and are seen to be defending) their copyright then a competitor could use this later on as a reason why their copyright is no longer valid.
The ideal solution would be for the IP owners to grant a special free license (or very discounted license) to TCPMP users, but I don't think they will see any reason to do this.
