See my Encoding tutorials here Bigds Video Guides You will want to click on the Divx Encoding in the Navigation Bar to the left on the home page and use Virtual Dub to compress the videos you have...You should be able to get 3-4 movies on a 1 Gig card.

One of the best video converters I have ever encountered for multiple file formats is called WinAVI Video Converter.
Now the above suggestions are good for taking DVD's or large avi's and making them small. WinAVI can do this as well, but has less options However, what if you run into one of those nasty .mov files? This app converts almost every single one you will find flawlessly. That way you are never stuck with those useless .mov files again!

Whatever version of Windows Media Encoder works on your PC. I think it really depends if your talking about converting large files to small of small files to large. Large to small works better every time.

PocketDVD or Movie2MemCard works well for me. Movie2memcard is made just for AVI MPEG WMV file compression, and to boot, it is intended for the ppc. For the same price (Or around there) you can get PocketDVD 1.1 (Soon to be 2.0, free upgrade) which includes a program called pocketVideo which is the same thing as movie2memcard except faster. As well as this, you can set the output file types on both these programs: put an mpeg in, and get either MPEG, AVI, or WMV file output.
PocketDVD 1.1 is made for ripping dvd's to smaller sizes optimised for the ppc. (Same as pocketvideo, just with dvd's) Anyway, for 12 dollars PocketDVD is a real steal, and for something around 10 i think, Movie2memcard is a great deal. These programs also have tirals that i suggest you try. Both programs are made with pocket pc's in mind, but can also do PC quality work as well.
Movie2MemCard. Just checked this out after spending the last two days trying to figure out how to play vids on my Axim X5 which I just bought from ebay and I am already in love. The program is amazing it took a 40 mb video and made it 8 without destroying the integrity of the video. And whats great is now I don't have to worry about files if I go to buy an Ipod or PSP because it will make files for those too.
I am right now taking full advantage of the free trial, but this is definitely one program purchase I will be making for my new baby.
As an edit I forgot to add this. I am also using the TCPMP that I also learned about from this site.
I love this site and all of the information it has provided me in the last few days.
