I need some advice, I want to make a backup copy of a DVD I bought as it is out of production, Weekend at Bernies , and I'm worried about accidental damage etc (I already lost one movie I can't replace). All I want to do is backup the movie onto a blank DVD, I need advice regarding the easiest way to do this and what software works best.
Any pointers would be really appreciated.

Personally, I prefer DVDShrink for my dvd backups. I rip only the movie (no menus, extra features, etc) so the kids can just put the movie in the player and it plays. The original DVDs fit just fine in shoeboxes in the closet

Hmmm. I just bought that same movie at Best Buy for 7.99... But, if you are still bent on backing it up, I really like AnyDVD (decrypter) and CloneDVD2 by the smae folks. Of course, this costs money, but I found it to work better than the free programs. I do this with the DVD's I am going to play in the car (cartoons mostly) as they tend to get scratched up. (Yes, I own all the titles I have copied and no, I do not "share" them. -- Royalties are why Hollywood keeps making movies and I don't have a problem with plunking down my share.)
Thanks for the advice I'm going to try out DVD Shrink and WinAVI over the next few days. It took months to get this DVD its deleted in the UK and I had to get through someone selling it on Amazon, not even ebay had a copy when I looked, hence being a bit prarnoid about damage. So thanks for all your help I'm off to try stuff out

As I said I use DVDShrink, however there are some 'protected' disks that resist being copied.
Therefore DVDDecrypter is used to read those disks...
I fhave one disk that refused to use that, so I used DVDFab Decrypter
But all told, I only had 3 or 4 disks that put up a fight, DVDShrink was then used on the decrypted files (from the above apps) to make the menuless dvd copies.
The disney titles are just stupid with trailers... and why will a dvd just sit on the menu playing some insipid tune endlessly... Thank you DVDShrink.
As a side note, I bought an Epson r200 printer that has a tray for prinatble cd/dvd disks, and CDCOVERS.CC has prescanned lables... Easier to DL than to scan myself
