PlaylistEditor 1.3 Released
I've made PlaylistEditor version 1.3 available for download from my website:
http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/
Version 1.3 includes several user interface updates to make the program more friendly. Features include:
- VGA Icon
- Toolbar button to import entire directories
- Add dialog now by default allows selection amongst most popular music formats without having to change the file type selector
- Rudimentry ID3v1 tag support, allowing you to create the playlist entry from the artist and title information if present.
Note that this does not allow for adding or editing ID3 tags yet.
I'll update the screenshots on my webpage when I get a chance.
Let me know of any problems.
Jon

This is a very nice update. For those of you who don't know this freeware program, it works with Windows Media player, and adds the ability to create your own playlists on your Axim. Small footprint, easy to use, adds utility to the Axim as a music player... can't ask for more from a freeware program now, can you?! Thanks Jon!!

how about already existing playlist
Jon;
Looks like a great piece of software and thanks for writing it. I'm at work and can't download it now but will the minute I get home....
Will it import the entire playlist as created on the desk top or will I have to recreate it on the handheld again?
I created several playlist per the desktop instructions, synced them to my device only to find the playlist vanished. I've got the music files but no playlist that I already spent time creating. Don't get it. I'm hoping your program will help.
Still don't understand why the desktop version and our mobile version don't sync like the instructions say they should

If you make a now playing list in WMP10 on the desktop, you can click on the "Now Playing List" button and save the resultant playlist as an ASX or M3U playlist, either of which Playlist Editor will open for you. Copy the resultant file to your PPC. If you want to play the files with WMP on the PPC save it as ASX, and refresh your library. It should show up there.
GSPlayer and others should be able to load M3U files. If you save a playlist in M3U format and you decide later you want it in ASX format, open it in Playlist Editor and "Save As..." ASX to convert. Vice Versa as well.
If you want to make it entirely on the device you can do that as well. Playlist Editor will let you add files one at a time, or to import an entire directory.
Let me know if you run into any trouble with it.

Jon;
Thanks for the reply. I was using GSPlayer and was very happy with it. Problem occured when I purchased about $20 bucks of downloaded songs from the Wal-Mart site without reading the fine print. Yup, they download as WMA files only which, at least as far as I could tell, GsPlayer doesn't play.
Now I have the majority of my music files as mp3 but the latest choice additions are WMA. So, my choice was spend another $20 on downloading them from another site as mp3's or finally get to know WMP and sync to my device.
(I followed everyone's advice and downloaded GSPlayer right away and never even opened WMP on my PPC. It is really a nice program.)
Anyway,
I read the WMP 10 desktop instructions and it clearly states I should create and name a playlist and it will be synced to my device as saved. I even watched it go through each playlist song by song in the exact order using the exact playlist name (i.e. "Mellow Housework Mix" sync to "Storage Card") using a mix of mp3 and wma files.
Three playlist and 15 minutes or so later, I can't find the playlist but I do have the music files on my storage card in alphabetical order of course arranged by artist.
So I appreciate any help your program can offer so I don't have to find the mp3 versions of the songs and pay to download them again. When I get home from work I will load PlayList and hopefully have my problem solved.

Playlist accomplished
Thanks for your help and designing this program Jon. I downloaded and installed and PlayListEditor works great! Now my WMA and mP3 files are happily coexisting in the same playlist. PlayListEditor is a great program. :approve:

Yes, I do have a suggestion. Is there a way to have an icon appear in Programs on my PPC? Right now I have to access the program from Total Commander / File Explorer. Did I do something wrong (i.e. not load the program right or something)? I know once I create a playlist I won't have to access it often but to have a program icon in programs whould save from having to hunt around for it.
Again Thanks for the help and the program.

The CAB installer should put an icon there. If you used the zip file, you can use file explorer to create a shortcut. Navigate the the executable and "copy" it, then "paste shortcut" in "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"

Again, thanks Jon. I did use the Zip file but followed your above directions and have the icon. BTW, my playlist (created by your program) are working great!

I've made a new minor update to bring Playlist Editor up to version 1.4
The only change in this version is that now Playlist Editor will try to open a file specified on the commandline.
I made this change to support opening playlists using the OpenWith utility on my website, discussed here http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=95377
This also means that you could associate playlist files with Playlist Editor (but not likely desireable since you want a media player to open them.)
Both version 1.4 and OpenWith can be found on my website at http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc
Let me know if there are any problems.
Jon
