You can play AAC files with version 0.66a of TCPMP.
However, I don't think the files from Itunes will work, as they will have all that DRM gubbins on... A common solution is to burn + rip, but depending on how many you have, this could be kinda time consuming, and degrades the quality.... If you have some way to convert to mp3, then that would probably be the easiest option.

Songs ripped in iTunes will be fine, they are not DRMd.
Songs downloaded from iTunes Music Store will have DRM.

And songs downloaded from iTunes music store can have the DRM removed as long as you were the original purchaser.

I know you said you didn't want to convert them but, I use Hymn to do this just so I can play them on my Axim. I like iTunes, I hate DRM! It is real easy and works well if you decide to give it a try. Good Luck~

FlyACL> I don't think the issue is DRM, I think it's that TCPMP has removed its AAC support.

What I said was I hate DRM. I like iTunes, but "as is" you are kind of limited to what you can do with your music. I figure if I pay for it then I should be able to put it on my Axim or what ever else I would like to do. The iTunes DRM makes that harder then it should be. So you can either do the CD burning trick but, unless you really want them on CDs it is kind of a waste. OR you can use Hymn to convert them. Fast, easy, free. My favorite things.... After that, I can play them in WMP or TCPMP on my Axim, I can load them on my Rio, I can play them in WMP10 on my desktop, I can use them as background music on my home made photo CDs, ect. All the things I should be able to do with music I paid for.

I don't think this is a DRM issue, I think it's just a generic AAC support issue.

OK, I give
UCDOC to try and answer your question "Is there any way to play AAC music files?" As far as I know there is no players that support the AAC format at this time. So you would have to convert them first. Then you would be able to play them in WMP/TCPMP/GSPLAYER or what ever you want. There are several ways to do this, let us know if you are intersted in going that route. Take care and Good Luck~

I think you're confusing the issue.
I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but let me clarify: Songs downloaded from iTunes Music Store have the Fairplay DRM scheme. Like you said, can be problematic. There is no support on PPC for Fairplay DRM since it's an Apple specific format. Songs ripped into iTunes from CD into AAC do NOT have fairplay DRM. These can be played on PPC (or many other devices). TCPMP can (or could) play AAC, as can iPlay as per my link above. So the issues are: 1. AAC support 2. AAC with Fairplay DRM support. I believe the issue here is number 1, not number 2. Yes - you can play native AAC files on PPC. URDOC> Can you clarify if the problem is 1, 2 or 1 and 2.

I am 100% confused with all this. I though it was just simple Supported or Not Supported. Anyway, if anyone else can figure this out, here is version 0.66a - http://www.cabfiles.net/search.php?f...at=0&do=search

I appreciate the responses. The reason I dont convert aac to mp3 is futher loss of quality.
Now, I found a player that works thanks to Howard2k above at this site. iPlay from http://40th.com Very nice. Good enough for me. No more downloading from itunes. Will purchase the cd next time and convert to aac myself. Thus, I can listen to it on my new player above. One thing I noticed is that music sounds better on my ipod though compared to axim. Whats your opinion?

Glad to hear it. The 40th floor software it too pricey for my taste but it appears to be the only option at the moment.
Glad you got it working. As FlyACL mentioned, another option is to use Hymn. That way you can purchase music from iTunes and remove the DRM. The legality is unclear in my mind so I would look into that before using it.
