So you have to pay 19.99 to be able to use any skins... that sucks

Timdjohn - WinamPAQ plays OGG format music files. I installed it to my Ax a while ago to play MP3's, but just recently tried to convert files to OGG. Looks like files are about 15-20 % smaller than the same songs in MP3. You can also skin WinamPAQ.

Winamp is small, maybe it could be ported straight to Pocket PC without stripping it down to a crap look-a-like
I'm glad that someone agrees with me on this issue though, i listen to a variety of different music on many different formats and when i looking to see what i could play alot of things were unplayable only all 3 audio players I have. Pathetic.

This thread is very helpfull. But what are .Ogg files???
Second off, I have tried Pocket Music (its okay, but I dont want to buy a feature pack), and WinPaq(good, but the skins look like crap and stuff). I have not tried GSplayer but does it play windows media files, and does it have a screen shut-off feauture? Anyway, thanks in advance :)

Ogg = the new MP3
http://www.vorbis.com/ for more info
Ogg files are smaller than MP3 at the same quality, and there are no patents on it which means that it is possible to have freeware encoders (illegal with MP3 because the people who make encoders for MP3 have to pay royalties)
WinAMP, WinamPAQ, and ALL Linux based media players will play Ogg.
MS Media player is still lagging behind (MS doesn't seem to like open standards, they have the same problem with their web browser and .PNG graphics files)

No, GSPlayer does not play wma files, but it does play ogg format which is in my opinion a lot better than wma - better sound quality at similar bitrates, and also open source format.
Yes, GSPlayer does have a screen shut-off feature.
It has many other nice features too like +/- 10 sec ff/rew that you can also assign to hardware buttons. I use it to listen to the daily CNET radio dispatch - the 10 sec skip is very handy to skip over stuff you're not interested in. (good for listening to news, audiobooks, etc)

I have been using the "60 hours of trial" (60 hours of music playing not having the program on your axim for 60 hours)
And I must say its a MUST HAVE.
First Great sound
Great Features
Works with Micro-Drive (unlike pocket music which screws up your mp3's)
For 15 dollars go out and buy it, that money will be well spent

dumb ??
ok people...call me dumb or whatever, but can someone give me an "mp3 to ogg" for dummies how to??
heres my thing...i have mp3s on my home computer..i want to buy a 256 meg sd card..can i..and how do i..convert my favorite mp3s to ogg and put them on the sd card?? i use winamp on my home computer....do u convert on the home computer or on the axim? i think i know how to get them from my home computer to my ax...but do they need to be in the ogg format 1st?? i saw a post somewhere that said if u convert mp3 to ogg,it sounds crappy.. i have seen here that wmp on the ax dont do ogg. so if i just want to be simple here and dump a bunch of ogg tunes on my ax...which player is best? cuz i dont think i would be changing like a few people talked about here,,just take it to work, plug in the desktop speakers and play some tunes all day!!
any takers on this?? anyone with enough time to explain it to me??
thanks

Conversion
Under Windows the best conversion tool I've seen is WMA workshop
http://www.litexmedia.com/wma_workshop/beta.html
That should let you convert from just about any audio format to any other.
ogglame is best in Linux.
