what is the 'winamp' of the pocketpc world? :)
howdy, pretty new to the axim world, just bought 256mb cf, and put some mp3's on...however, i'm finding that media player isn't all that great, i'd much rather have something that loads .m3u's..thanks!

WinamPAQ is the one I use. WinamPAQ != Winamp, but it's ok...

Aximsite has links to WinamPAQ and PocketMusic. Both are decent and free. If you're like me, you'll find something wrong with all of them. Someone at Nullsoft needs to port Winamp for us... :)

In terms of audio quality for MP3 playback, and memory usage, and speed issues, and things like navigating within a song, none come close to GSPlayer in its current version, they've really improved it. Unfortunately, WinamPAQ is the only one to support Ogg Vorbis files... and as we all know:
Ogg Vorbis > All

All these Music players are woefully inadequate. All of them play very very few formats. I want a music player that plays at least 5 different audio formats, is that so hard?

why would you have 5 different formats? what are they? can you possibly just reencode the files?

I agree with you, someone should make a full conversion of WinAmp, with plug-in codec support for... more of the following formats than are curretnly available:
.aac
.mp3
.wma
.midi
.ogg
.wav
.aiff
video:
.mpg (preferably 4)
divx
.avi
.mov
.wmv
if there could be a winamp app, including video support, to do all that, that would really be awesome.
I actually like the GSPlayer the most as it isn't full screen, but since I use ogg must use WinamPAQ, which is why I think it should be plugin based.

well, in video it's definitely possible, in tersm of audio, it might just be that you have say, full quality music, spokenword audio, maybe audible books or something like that, midi, and perhaps some other format ripped from some other source, and you don't want to have to reencode if you don't have to, or be stuck without something.

My audio player wishlist.
Streaming (Live365) support
Ogg support
gapless playback (no pause between tracks)
easily sortable playlists
shuffle play an entire directory *and subdirectories*
play all tracks within a directory in alphabetical order
GSPlayer is closest, but it's not gapless, and when I use "find file...." to play a directory, the tracks play in *reverse* alphabetical order. so close.....

what is this OGG format I have seen a few post about? is it a small file size than MP3 and WMA? I like WMA as I can get a fairly small file size compaired to MP3.
I do agree with needing better support for formats outside of MP3. With wma I have been forced to use the PPC Windows media player, which in a word suxs!
Is there a palyer that plays these OOG files on PPC?
Tim
