Converting movies? Then look no further! Free!
This guide:
Sticky: How To: Encode Videos For Your PDA For Free (Both 320x240 AND 640x480) UPDATED 3/28
And the tools referred to in it (particularly Auto Gordian Knot) are spectacular.
About a year ago I purchased Pocket-DVD Studio - and it worked... ok. But unless I made the movie files unreasonably large, the quality really suffered during action sequences.
But Auto Gordian Knot (although slow in converting) produced spectacular results. I was able to compress a 96 minute movie down to 310 MB with outstanding results compared to the same size file produced by Pocket-DVD studio. That's three movies per GB on my 4 GB CF! What a treat for my log flights to Asia!
Admittedly my rev of Pocket-DVD studio was a year old, but I can’t see paying for updates forever, when AGK produces superior quality movies FOR FREE!
Anyone looking to convert DVD content for viewing on their AXIM should abandon any thoughts of paying for a product and use AGK.
BTW, the encoding was so good, that I am able to run my Axim in Power-Saving mode ( 208 MHZ) and still see perfect quality movies. This really comes in handy on long flights where external power isn’t available. My current test show with the backlight set to the dimmest setting (but still on) and the Power-Saving mode allow me to watch about 200 minutes of video on an 1100 MAH battery!
Thanks for the guide! Thanks for the tools! Thanks for a great Axim site!
BTW, does anyone know if there are any offshore sources for the ripper used in this guide? I already have a copy, but if others are looking for it…
Michael
