Playing DVDs on PPC
I am interested in being able to watch a full dvd movie on my x50. I have purchased dvd to pocket pc 2.5. I folow all the steps to convert the movie, however i cannot get it to work correctly. It will not do the whole movie. I tried oceans 12 5 times the first time it was 13 min of the movie and then 5 and so on. Is this illegal to do, and if not. is there another way to do it, or a better way to do it.

Yes, it is illegal to do, but there are tools out there to do it. You will need to rip the dvd first, using FairUse, DVDDecrypter, DVD Shrink, etc. Then, DVD2PPC should be able to convert it and re-size it for you. I am currently using DVD2PPC also; it seems buggy, but does work. Pocket DVD Wizard and deset Video Maker are much better programs. I found out only after buying DVD2PPC. Seems like I wasted some money.....
If you need more help, let us know.

Here's a great tutorial I've read (it's the top 'stickie' in the multimedia forum):

Well, first off it is NOT illegal to do provided you own the DVD your are trying to copy/convert. It would be illegal to go to Blockbuster, rent a movie, copy/convert/rip it, and then retun it.

Anyway, I have never used DVD to PPC so I can't help much there. I (like many others) prefer the free FairUse method. If you care to try it the links to everything you need are in my sig. There is also quite a bit of info in this site using the search feature. Let us know if you get stuck. Good Luck~

This is how i do it.

Open Slysoft's AnyDVD
Convert/rip DVD into xvid using FairUse.
Wait a few hours, maybe go to sleep.
Result = a 300mb file (the best results for me)
Copy file into SD card.
Play using The core media player on the axim

Actually I've been noticing a new warning on DVDs. It seems they have seperated Copying from Distributing in the warning. This implies that copying is a seperate offense which will be investigated by the FBI.

I seriously doubt though that the FBI is going to waste resources looking for people who copy DVDs to use on other devices while there are real criminals out there who not only copy but manufacture and distribute for cash bootleg DVD's.

Anybody planning on turning themselves in?

BOT: I use Fairuse but I don't have a copy of Oceans 12 to rip. Does it say anything about copy protection on your DVD? One tip I can share is to start the DVD in WMP to make sure it will play on your computer before you use your ripping software.
