DVD ripper to make Pocket PC movies

Hi,

Can anyone suggest a good DVD ripper and encoder? I tried making an AVI file using DVD Shrink and Pocket DviXEncoder. The resulting output AVI file played only audio on my PC and was not recognized as a multimedia file when I plugged in the CF card in my Axim. Any suggestions or resources would be a great help.

Thanks

Fairuse, is what I use, and it's free

And you will want to use TCPMP to play them (also free)

Yep, FairUse is the way to go. Free and easy! Links to everything you need are in my sig. Good Luck and let us know if you get stuck. You can also search for FairUse on this site. Lots of people use it and there is a lot of info around. Enjoy!

Chances are that the file you made from DVD Shrink and Pocketdivx Encoder is ok...You need to have the DIVX codec installed on your PC in order to see the video this is why your only getting audio....Do not go to http://www.divx.com/ and get the 6.0 version for it is buggy. Go here for the DIVX codec http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DivX_Free.htm look for version 5.2.1. And as far as your PPC being able to reconize your file , you will need a divx player installed for Windows Media Player on the PPC does not play divx files. As noted in the above post TCPMP is the player you need http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download latest version is 0.66

Hi,

Thanks for the help. I installed the Dvix codec and the AVI file that was created with Fair use works fine. I installed TCPMP on my Axim but now I can’t play the AVI file from my CF card. Can't figure where the TCPMP is.

Thanks

If you installed with Activesync look in your Programs Folder for the TCPMP Icon.

Cool thanks I found the player and the AVI file plays great. The only thing I noticed is that the AVI file created with FairUse is a lot larger than the file I created with DVDShrink and Pocket Dvix Encoder. 780 MB as opposed to 330MB. I guess the FairUse file is will play better on the Axim. I have a 1GB CF card and I wanted to store a few movies on the card instead of just one.

Thanks for your help

Take a look at my WALK THROUGH and pay special attention at the final file size section (the 8th picture down) so as not to make your file size to big THEN you will be able to fit maybe 3 movies on your 1 Gig card.
