Question Why won't PocketMVP play my .avi's ??

I just can't seem to get PMVP to play any .avi's I have DL'd from Pocketmovies a while back. I've uninstalled older versions and have the latest version on my Ax right now.

In the initial setup I registered the app to recognize all the formats available to it (avi, mpeg, ogg, mp3, etc.). It plays MP3's and mpeg's just fine, but refuses to play avi's (which is supposed to be the main format this app is known for)

Here is the media info of one .avi I'm trying to play:

File name: KillerBean2.avi
Resolution: 320 x 240
Frames: 13231
FPS: 29.97
Audio Bitrate: 56Kbps
Audio Rate: 22Khz
Channels: 2
Running Time: 07:21
FourCC: div4
Audio Format: 85

On my desktop the properties says this is a divx 3.11 which is supposed to play, but isn't supported. The media info seems to suggest this as a divx4.

Any idea's ???

Just bumping this back up... No response from anyone in the know?

Is it because they are all 3.11? The info on PMVP says it will play 3.11, but it is otherwise unsupported.

I can't see that re-encoding should be necessary as the properties seem to show everything set fine for PPC

That's it! No wonder I had trouble with mine, they were encoded on a different version of divx.

In order to play movies you must have whats called a codex. Basically think of it like this. If you take a .txt it can open up with programs that can read the txt file code. You wouldnt wanna try opening a txt with photoshop. Same goes with movies. Only its a little harder to determain the "decoder" for it. Something I would recommend getting is a program called avicodex. http://avicodec.duby.info/ This program will tell you what the foles audio and video codex were used to make the file and suggest where to get the programs to play it. This program is designed for the pc but might give ya a better idea on how to open the avi file. Another great site with FAQ and programs to encode/decode video is http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ or formally known as vcdhelp.com You will find alot of useful info on playing and making your own movies as well. If ya have any more questions feel free to contact me.
