tcpmp question

Hi, I have movies that I formatted with pocketdvd studio and they play fine on WMP, now with tcpmp I have to watch them in raw framebuffer mode or GDI.

question:
1) why is this? and what are these modes?
2) which one is optimal?
3) Do I lose clarity or audio clarity with one mode over the other?

Thanks in advance.

It's something do do with the WMV codec getting screwed up somehow - I can't remember the specifics.
These modes are just different ways of 'drawing' the movie.
If you mean fastest by optimal, I'm not really sure, although I'd guess Framebuffer. You could just run a benchmark in both modes to see?
No, you shoudn't lose any quality with either mode I think, definately not any audio auality.

Honestly, WMV sucks. I don't encode my files in any deadlocked, limited format. Choose something like OGM, DivX/XviD for your encodings.

It will give you less problems and opens up many possibilities for future use.

Ok, noted but pocket dvd studio churns them out in wmv format, hence, these questions.

it took a long time before I switched from wmv to DivX but there is no turning back.

to convert films into DivX you can use the free software auto gk (google it)

it performs the same function as pocket dvd studio.

if you want to compress it some more you can use the excellent and also free pocket divx encoder program (look for the link on the tcpmp web site)

DivX films in tcpmp are a million times better then wmv on any player

Fairuse is pretty decent but I find that AutoGK yields a tad better and more detailed picture. It does take longer but its usually worth it. Eiter a two pass target size or quality encode

to tell you the truth I just realized that pocketpc dvdstudio 3.5 is the easiest to use. AND you can convert to divx or xvid. I paid 30 bucks and you cant beat the speed of conversion. worth it.

What fair wizard allows you to go and what Autogk does automatically is crop out the Black Bars in a WS movies so that your not using bitrate on them, I don't know how much more efficient one is at doing this than the other
