WiFiTunes - iTunes over WiFi on Axim ~ V.04

Found this today over on Handango. Seems to have been updated. It is a simple free little program. I tried it and it works pretty good. enjoy~

WiFiTunes

"This application will discover via Rendezvous any iTunes running on Macs or PCs on your local network and allow you to browse the library or playlist and then stream MP3s directly to your PDA. Example uses include connecting your PDA headphone jack into a stereo in another room in your house (I have mine streaming music to the bathroom). Update 0.4 released 23 September 2005 Install intructions: WiFiTunes is in a cab file so you install it just like any other cab file. Download the cab file to your pc. Connect your pda using active sync and choose explore so you can view the files on the PDA. Copy the cab to your pda. On the pda use file explorer to find the cab you copied over, its likely to be in your my documents folder. And tap the cab with the stylus. Connect your pda to your wireless network. Run itunes on your pc, and enable sharing in the preferences. Run wifitunes from the programs menu on your pda. Choose your itunes library from the libraries menu. Choose a playlist, and press play."

Only supports MP3, so not THAT impressive until they include AAC. IMHO

I didn't even notice that when I was reading about it. But now that I think about it, all mine are also in .mp3 format. I buy them form iTunes and then use the Hymn software to convert/unprotect them. Still a neat program, and the price is right! (free)

Nah, it's going to be like that for a while, WM5 is not going to have much software especially since it just came out, but the more popular it becomes, the more software will be more ready for it. Trust me, in a couple of months, WM5 will have tons of software, companies have to produce software for it. This is the new WM2003, all the new PPCs will have it.

Nope just wifi, but you do need to turn on sharing in iTunes. Took me about 4 seconds to get running. I am sure you will get it going.

first wififofum and now this! cool! I'm sure this'll be great once its out of the beta stage. I installed 0.4.1 and can't skip to next track.. getting quite a lot of "unexpected error"s.

..thanks for posting this.

ok, thanks, i dont like to use itunes though, cuz i have a rio carbon instead of an ipod, i should have ripped my cds into mp3s to start. i ended up having 3 gb free anyway on my rio carbon 5 gb and mp3s only take up about double the space so i would have had 1 gb free

Maybe, you could try it. The program is free. But, I am not sure I see why. If you use BT you will have to be fairly close to your iBook. So why not just listen on your iBook instead of streaming to your Axim 4 feet away? Anyway, give it a try. Good Luck~
