Only some WAV files work?
Strange little problem - trying to get some .WAV files to play on my Axim X50V, and only a few of them work??!? I am using the app "sndplay.exe" for all of these. Some play, some just do nothing. the sndplay min-window shows up (with the Stop, Start, and Close options), but the file will not play. ALL of these .wav files had no problems running on my laptop. Is there another type of codec I need, or a different sound player?!?

ALso, I am becoming a better Aximsite user. I searched for a long time in these forums for someone with similar problems, and could not find the answer I was looking for!!!!

WAV files are audio containers that can carry different encoding formats inside of them, sndplay can only playback PCM WAVs which is what the files that play correctly are. Windows on your laptop contains a system component called the Audio Codec Manager which enables Windows Media Player and other Directshow compatible players to decode and play a wide variety of audio formats, this component has no direct equivalent in Windows Mobile.

All very interesting but that doesn't really solve the problem. For that you will need The Core Pocket Media Player, it will play your (slightly strange) WAV files and tell you what encoding format they use.

That is great informatin, thank you!!

I was doing some research waiting for a reply to this thread. From my Laptop, I was clicking on the properties of my .wav files. I did notice that there were differences in the Audio Format's. But without getting into it deeper, I read your thread and will install Core Pocket Media Player! Thanks.
