I've been converting music vidios with virtualdub to play on my Axim and I have notice the audio don't really match the lips of the singers. It's not that bad in some vidios, but then I converted the George Michael's Freedom'90 vidio and the audio is way off. They do alot of lip sync in that vidio (I don't know if that has anything to do with it).

I've converted it twice using Divx 5.0.3 and Divx 4.12 and it came out the same.

In general is there a better way to match up the audio to the vidio using virtualdub?

You can adjust the "audio interleave" in Vdub. You will have to experiment with the settings to get a satisfactory result.
