It's has limited hardware acceleration, it's extremely slow, "difficult" to add new files to play lists, lame hot-key support... limited codec support... Doesn't always play videos at the beginning...

Mad

Falling under the button mapping category, but I'm feeling the need to share/vent. I really miss mapping to be able to turn the screen off. This not only saved battery life, but eased worry about the screen coming on and/or the on screen buttons changing the songs, volume etc. when wanting to work only with the mapped hardware buttons. This function isn't even listed on the "pretend":rolling: button mapping tab in WMP10.

No visualisations - I love them... why none on Pocket WMP? :(
No EQ or bass boost etc. - yeah, I know X50Mix makes up for this but a soft EQ is still nice for fine tuning
Buggy seeking - some files don't let you seek properly.
Not many codecs supported - I'm a big fan of Ogg Vorbis too... grr
Skinning "system" is terrible... and theres next to no nice extra skins
No nice VGA icons in the Library... just pixellated QVGA ones
Not much configurability
No options to size/scale videos to fit the window... its small+windowed or fullscreen
Memory hog

Thats "all" I can think of for now... ;) TCPMP all the way!

I just use it as an MP3 player. However, even if you add album artwork to the MP3 file, it does not show up on WMP10 PPC. Also I am not able to seek or skip 5 seconds ahead or back, or fast foward/rewind. I can only jump from track to track. And for that lack of functionality I need to find a new player for MP3 files.

Any recommendations for MP3 player? I don't need anything fancy, VGA would be nice, but again, its going to be in my pocket most of the time.

Ok, some of these things listed are possible, just kinda...suck.

Button mapping This isn't quite as horrible as I thought at first. Here are my settings:

Play/Pause: Up
Stop: Down
Previous: Left
Next: Right
Volume Up: '!' (Wireless button on side of x50v)
Volume Down: '"' (Record button on side of x50v)
Fast Forward: Hold Right (when you press assign, hold right for a count of 5 and then let go)
Rewind: Hold Left (same as above)
Toggle Screen: Action

With this configuration, I'm only unable to map Full Screen and Mute.

Album Art: The secret is in a post with zero replies from March: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...ght=Folder.jpg Follow those instructions and you should be good to go.

Now you can tell how deficient a program is by the number of programs written to support it or replace it. For instance:

Playlist Editing: That's why I wrote my program for editing playlists. See some original discussion here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=62442

Sleep Timer: PHM Plus http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/Plus/ has a sleep timer that doesn't work as well since the WMP10 update (it worked great in WMP9) It still can shut off your device in the proper time. One of these days I may work on my own to do this with WMP10.

Equalizer: Software Equalizers are vastly inferior to the hardware versions, and as such if you're fortunate to have an x5(0|1) you can use x50mix. I don't blame microsoft for not including this.

I'm hardly a WMP10 apologist, but I need to use it for my purchased Music. I use GSPlayer whenever I can however.

Just some issues and tips that might help someone, all in one place (I feel like Menneisyys ;) )

Jon

Hello Jon
You could try screen toggle and free up your Action button
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...pocketpc.shtml

It's a small little app. Does not take up a lot of space and you can just map it to one of the outside buttons.

Thanks again for your nice apps.
and have a good day.

How do you map functions to the wireless and record button? It doesn't seem to work for me. Thanks.

That's a good idea. I also could do without it using just the backlight dimming and the hold swich.

Hmm, i guess its because I have mine remapped to page up and page down using PHM keys.

I came up with a good idea for how to do button mapping in a more general case, and I'm working on ironing the bugs out now.
