USB Devices on Axim

Anyone know if it is possible to get some type of adapter that would allow connection of standard USB devices through the port on the bottom of the Axim? It would be nice to leave a WIFI card in the CF slot while still connecting something like a USB Webcam.

There is a CF card that acts as a USB host, but that would replace your WiFi card.

Look around the boards, there are several threads similar to this already. But as for "standard" USB devices, your biggest problem would be to find drivers that would allow them to work with the PPC operating system.

There are 2 things that allow USB devices to work...

Drivers and a "host"

Dell Axim does not appear capable of "host" functionality even though the chipset supports it. It may just be a simple matter of decoding the pins on the bottom, but it might be much more than that.

PPC's have drivers for simple things like keyboard, mice, and ( soon ) mass storage devices.

Probably not that simple. The bottom connector is actually a serial interface, not USB. Ever wondered why the USB cradle and/or sync cables are so slow?
:)

"The long awaited USB mass Storage driver for PocketPC 2002
This is a driver which enables you to use USB mass storage devices (HD, multimedia Reader, digital camera) with your USB host enabled PocketPC."

. Mouse Pointer HID driver:
"The HID driver fully implements the functionality of MPointer.
The MPointer application gives you a mouse pointer on your USB host enabled PPC"

Now that would be cool! I could use my 512 usb memory with the Axim.

do you think that you could use the thing now where you can hook up your cell phone via USB to get internet access?

In that case is there a cable that can be connected to the bottom that would give you a standard 9 pin Serial Port? This would be handy for a console connection to network equipment.

Take a look at the following site: http://www.gomadic.com

I have both a T720 phone cable and a serial connection for a laptop.
