The elimination of CF could actually be a good thing in a way. SD technology, according to an article someone else dug up earlier on this forum, could possibly become as large as 32gb and uses much less battery than a microdrive, so they could at some point replace them altogether. Also, Compact Flash, although versitile, doesn't have the near limitless potential of Bluetooth, which is IMO the best thing to happen to the mobile market in a long time. The only thing it doesn't offer is having your additional storage/feature/doowhacky inserted into your device for convenience; that's the only thing I see in favor of compact flash once BT surpasses it in bandwidth, economy, and availability. To sum it up, although I would miss my CF slot today, I'm betting there will be an even larger selection of great substitutes out there because of simpler choices for the manufacturer, kinda like how there's more now for USB than there ever was for DB9, DB25, and PS2 all put together.
NO WAY! It'd be a huge step backwards to exclude a CF card slot... USB HOST, MODEMS, GPS, MICRO DRIVES, BLUETOOTH, WIFI and more can all be done from the CF slot with universally available products. You couldn't do half that with a postage stamp sized SD slot.
Perhaps once SD catches up with CF in capacities, periperals, and so forth and when the other compnents such as digital cameras all go SD only, and if they include dual SD slots, this would be acceptable.

I wonder if it would be possible for Dell to eliminate the existing SD slot and just add a second CF. CF is so much more powerful and versatile that I would definitely prefer that arrangement.

BlueTooth, WiFi are built-in to the newest-generation PDAs, the CF slot elimination could make room for a USB host. A doubled SD slot would increase the flash storage possible and reduce the need for a MicroDrive, and your GPS receiver should already be bluetooth! CF is a standard which has already seen its peak. I will mourn my CF cards lying unused in a drawer somewhere, but will rejoice in the features its elimination allowed.
On one hand, I actually use my cf slot and would be kinda upset if they got rid of it. On the other hand, if they replaced it with a usb host that would be sweet. How about both???
I use the CF for the higher capacity (2GB) storage than I can get in SD (1GB). Also, I put mostly read-only data on the CF (music, video, PDFs, ...) as I prefer to not remove the CF as often as the SD since the connectors on CF are more "mechanical" than the SD connectors. Personal preference is all.

Yah, if they got rid of the SD and added a USB port, that would be perfect.

All of these things are available now in PDA with the exception of microdrive and GPS (AFAIK). But they will have something in the pipeline to accomodate this.
cheers,
