Dell Axim and AT&T
Hey Guys,

I had a question if anyone knew if AT&T offered anything where I could use my Axim as a wireless phone. I already have a contract with them, so I can't switch to Sprint to use theirs. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

AT&T has several phones that can communicate with your Axim and act as a modem ... They also have plans for GPRS if your in an area that supports it and have a capable phone ...

I just switched to the mLife plan on the G3 network with GSM/GPRS and really enjoy it ...

Different connection options you have depending on the phones capabilities is
1. cable between pda and phone
2. IR connection (note some Nokia phones don't like the IR on the Axim)
3. Bluetooth wireless connection to your phone.

I chose the Bluetooth as you can connect to your phone and you don't have to have it out .. I just leave the phone in the case on my belt ... Only draw back is you have to get a wireless bluetooth card.

Ok...Good to know...but...

I was looking more to make the axim THE phone. So I dont have to even have a wireless phone anymore, my Axim would act as the phone. It seems like the options you suggested make it so I still have to have a phone with me. I could just be mis-interpreting though.

Yes you would still need the phone in the above options...

However if you are in an area that ATT serves GSM then you can get a compact flash card from here and it will make your PDA into a phone also ... But its a solution that costs a lot more than a phone ... $249.99

are you trying to turn your ax into a phone so you only have to carry one and not both?

Okay I know there are lots of discussions about connecting via cell phone but since you (Planet-Ed) already have AT T like I do how exactly does that work. Do you dial into a network or do you connect using something from ATT?

I have a ATT service and a Nokia 3650 phone. I have a bluetooth card for my Axim so I can connect wireless to my phone.

I use the ATT GPRS network to access the internet thru my phone so I connect at ~115Kbps

It is expensive. They are supposed to come out with a unlimited plan but it seems to be taking them forever to release it ...

Sorry for the follow up question but I am kinda slow...
Does the ATT service provide you with the internet access or do you have to connect to an ISP using a phone # like you do with AOL?

They charge a few cents per mb....number of cents depends on which plan you are on. I use it for email 3-4 times a day and an occasional map. It's only expensive if you "Joy Surf"!

3650+Ax
I have a 3650 and I am thinking about switching to T-Mobile because they have a 19.99 unlimited GRPS option at the moment.

From what I have read on the ATTWS forums, there will not be an unlimited plan from ATT.
