Pocket PC support for the SlingBox

Sling announces Pocket PC support for the SlingBox:

http://engadget.com/2006/01/05/sling...-the-slingbox/

Now if you've got a slingbox, you can watch TV on your Ax soon with the convenience of slingbox.

That's awesome! Thanks for the heads up! This is definitely making the slingbox look more and more attractive. As if it wasn't cool enough already.

Curious, does the Slingbox do anything that Orb doesn't or do it better? Seems expensive when there is a comparable free service.

I had trouble getting Orb to work...

When I finally installed SP2 for XP I could do all the networking stuff but still Orb did not work.

Every once in a while I get the urge to try yet again...

Orb works fine on my Media Center PC. Firewall blocked it until I finally got all the permissions set. Picture quality isn't all that great, but that's probably a bandwidth issue that would also affect Slingbox.

Slingbox is free as well. I dont have one but AFAIK the box provides the streams. Simply connect it to your network and a media device (cable/satellite/dvd/etc) and it will allow you to control that device and view the video stream. No need to have a computer running or anything. A slingbox is smaller, quieter, and uses less power than a PC. It would also be much easier to set up. Its also more flexable. You can use it with any video out device (though you are limited by the supported remote codes) which is much better than the few tv tuners suppored by orb. Granted orb also streams files from your computer but heck you could still run orb in addition to a slingbox.

Where you getting one free? Most of the ones I've seen cost about $250.

I have a PSP too - but I think that only works with the SOny LOcationfree player, which is about $400, and does the exact same thing as the slingbox.

Service is free. Of course there is a fee for the device but there would also be a fee for a TV tuner for a tuner card for use w/ orb (albeit a lot less)...
