Flash Drive Discussion

Now I can see a reason for USB host and dropping the CF slot = )

Pretty neat, but I see ads for 8GB USB Flash drives in the newspaper every week or so, (Fry's sells them for about $200 or so, though it's for a generic unit. For the price, I would expect them to be slow and not last very long.)

The largest USB Flash drive I've seen in real life is Jessica Simpson's 20GB unit. It's about the size of a deck of cards and quite heavy, so I know it's relatively old technology. Jessica says that it's actually quite fast. I never bothered to ask about the price, but I'm guessing something like $2000 or so since it's a bit old. (She also mentioned that it actually has several independent banks of Flash memory and a smart microprocessor system (RAID 5?) that keeps the data safe even if a bank fails.)

Please be nice. In real life, she's actually quite smart. Stereotypes are not to be believed.
Besides, she doesn't make as many English "bugs" as you do. I can tell you're just jealous. Saying bad things is not a good response to jealousy.

Just remember, at the current rate of development, you can get your own 20GB USB Flash drive at an affordable price in just a year or two.

Sure, but it'll be physically bigger, and nowhere near as tough. I have seen someone throw a USB Flash drive down some stairs and it survived. Good luck making a hard drive that can survive that. In fact, Flash memory is so tough that it's used in the "black boxes" in aircraft.
