I am using the Socket card in my Dell Axim and like the others it works fine. And yes, it did cost more than $50. As I suspected it does not have the same range as my laptop based WiFi card. I assume that is due to smaller antenna area and will be the same for all CF based cards. Getting WEP to work was a bit of a pain and could be better. The review posted by the site admin on the Linksys shows setup screens that look possibly a little simpler to use. BUT, Socket is supposed to be releasing a software update later this month including support for the latest 802.1x encoding schemes and profiles. A first from what I understand. A key feature for all you wireless users to look for in a CF card is the support for profiles and not everyone has it. Profiles is the ability to record configuration settings for a variety of wireless LANs and easily switch between them. If you do not have profiles then you have to reconfigure your CF card for each wireless LAN. Not a trivial task if encryption is used. FYI - the Socket card has the lowest power compsumption rating of all the cards on the market. But there is a new chipset due in the next couple of months that will reduce standby comsumption to a tenth of current cards. Keep looking for new developments in the CF card arena over the next couple of months. Otherwise enjoy wireless email, music, messaging and where ever you go...
