The Perfect Axim

If a new Axim came out, what (hardware or software) improvements would you like to see in it (over the current X51/X51v series)?

Take an X50v, running WM2003se. I'd change nothing else. The X51v, with WM5 was a step backwards.

While I tend to agree with this statement, it may not be quite fair to compare WM 2003 Second Edition with WM 5 Dot Zero.

As for me, I would like to see a built-in hard drive, a software solution in which programs for desktop Windows could run on Windows Mobile, and more ram (for running programs with). I wonder if Dell could put Windows XP embedded on an Axim to replace Windows Mobile (Dell could possibly offer it as an upgrade option).

I am not interested in a PDA with a hard drive. Palm did that with the LifeDrive already anyway. Not really interested in a UMPC as it is currently defined either.

Maybe the StyleTap folks who brought us the Palm emulator will branch out and provide us with a Windows XP emulator for Windows Mobile, too?

It might be interesting to have a PDA without this ROM vs RAM concept so that we could load on the OS ourselves.

The changes I want are software based, such as working in native files. Don

I would like to have the same form factor as the current x51v with USB Host built-in. Full support for true VGA out of the box.

This would be a great project to do with the Windows CE platform builder kit. You could add whatever apps you wanted to rom.

Getting it loaded would be quite the task, not mentioning the device drivers...

Add a 30gb harddrive + more ram, and surf online as fast as desktops, usb host, and maybe that wimax thats coming soon and duel boot into XP for music compositions. I'd be happy.

At this point in time, I wouldn't trade my x50v wm2003SE...

With today's technology, there is no reason why we need a specialized OS! Honest!

We have the technology to pack a hefty hard drive, far amount of RAM and a beefy processor into a PPC formate running XP (or some other standard OS). There is no reason why we can't pack most of my laptop features into a PPC (they alreay have UMPC) --- Its all about popularity...

Yesterday I went out to Best Buy - they don't even sell PPC's on line any more. Major disappointment.

my wishes are more simple:
- GPS
- USB host
- Better battery life
- Slide open keyboard

with those things my Axim X50v would be perfect (I have all the items loose now, except the USB host).

I'd like Linux support.
Better hardware is always nice, but what I currently have is good enough.

Linux on the axim would be nice. I wonder if any linux distributions currently have support for the dell axim X50(v) or X51(v)?
