Whish the R2H had amazing battery life then it might be worth it over the OQO even with its slower overall performance I can deal with that.
Right now I'm broke and need clothes more than anything....sucks!

$850 shipped at provantage.com.
OQO is too rich for my blood too. It's nice but I'll stick with the R2H.

Schlepping around
Expensive? Yes.
Worth never again schlepping around a laptop or wishing your PDA was better? Yes.

EWWWW!!!!!! i didnt notice it had a crappy celeron in it. whats funny is that they could shove a pentium m into it and it would prolly run cooler and more power efficent...

In regards to the boot-up time... I put laptop to sleep and wake it up all the time... both very fast.

Wait a minute, did the rest of you just say that this 1000+ US$ device has a stalk of celery for a CPU? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING, PARTICULARLY WITH THE BLOATWARE THAT IS WINDOWS VISTA(and, to a slightly lesser degree, Windows XP)?
UMPCs will continue to flop if they don't correct their horrid price-performance ratio. For 1000-2000 US$, I expect a Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of RAM, and a DX10 graphics card to run Armed Assault, Bioshock, Crysis, etc. at high to maxed settings!
Okay, so gamers clearly aren't the target market for the UMPC platform. That said, I'd consider buying a device like the OQO Model 02...for around 500 US$ tops. A UMPC would make a great portable media player and emulation station as-is(my main reasons for getting a relatively-weak X50v!), but they're far too expensive given their specs.

OQO Model 02 for $500 US? I don't think that would be realistic. Check out the pre-orders on http://www.negrielectronics.com/prod...roducts_id=207.
In defense of UMPCs, they do offer Pentium M models but you'll pay for it near the $1,200- $1,500 price tag. As for running games, most games require a CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive to play (Farstone Virtual Drive do not always work on certain software). Unless you want to haul around a mouse & keyboard, you can play WOW and FEAR right now on the Samsung UMPC (go to YouTube for videos).
I agree, UMPCs are not really meant for gamers. I like it simply for the portability, email, internet tablet and the best part...painting & coloring with my son on it and playing Disney cartoon flash games (not good with a mouse yet- pen and tap is really natural to him).

Time from Standby for the model 02 is 5 seconds.

Don't confuse the RH2,
which has a Celeron,
with the OQO,
which has a VIA 1.5 G processor.
BTW, the Via runs cooler and uses less power than the Celeron.

My friend has an OQO...he says its cool, but not the greatest thing, esp at that price. I would have to agree. An axim x5xv, a BT keyboard and mouse, and you have yourself a waterdown OQO. However, if i could get XPE working on my axim...i'd be so happy.
They're good things, and some people need them. If you need a full OS in a pocket size, the OQO is good. I would use it as an internet tablet though lol...as i have used ALL my tablet PCs...

Well, I'm starting to reconsider perhaps splurging 800 US$ for a UMPC after reading about the Samsung Q1 Ultra. It has a very nice button layout for a UMPC, perhaps allowing effective gameplay sans gamepad. I could take the greatest game ever and Cortex Command with me easily, among other games like Rocket Jockey, Outcast, and ZSNES(okay, that's an emulator used for playing games, but it's close enough). Not quite enough for something like Armed Assault, Bioshock, Crysis, etc., but they won't be too far off as UMPC tech advances.
Also, I would've figured WoW and especially F.E.A.R. to be far too demanding for a UMPC with some sort of Intel GPU and a weak CPU. I've got to look into this YouTube footage.
Another thing I have to look into is 720p H.264/AVC video playback on a UMPC. That might be within the limits of the hardware, but I don't think that an Intel GPU is going to help at all, just leaving the CPU to do all of the grunt work.
Finally, doesn't Vista in general demand a Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of RAM, and some sort of DX10 graphics card? My best PC, an Athlon XP 1800+, 512 MB DDR-266, Radeon 9600 XT 128 MB system, would probably choke just running this new edition of bloatware.
Too bad that 800 US$ for any UMPC is still a bit expensive. I only have 2000+ out of my 3000+ US$ in savings available, and a good 1500-1800 US$, give or take, is going to be used for a new small-form-factor "desktop" PC meant for running games like Armed Assault, Bioshock, Crysis, Oblivion, you name it. That doesn't leave much for even the cheapest UMPCs...

No, those specs are to run the pretty Aero Glass GUI. It really only needs a 1 Ghz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 128 Mb Video RAM with DirectX 9 support. This supports any flavor of Vista, as long as you disable Aero.

If I read that correctly, you have 512 system RAM, and a 128 Mb video card ? Instead of spending $1500 to 1800 on a new system, just spend a third of that and upgrade your system RAM and video card.
