Aximsitex50icon Trying out my new SolarExpress USB Host

It arrived today after I placed my order one week ago. I ´m quiet surprise as to how fast it came all the way to Argentina. But my luck does not stop there as I’ve got for free the Y cable :approve: . Well, I did a pre-order or more like an enquire before it came out. I think it was because of that, who knows...

Inside the package came:
1 CF II USB Host
1 CD (driver v1.0 and TCPMP rc1 v0.72)
1 Cable (male mini USB to female USB)
I’ve got the user manual and the driver update through e-mail.

Up to now I have try it on 2 Axim 50v; one with WM2003se and the other with WM05.
It works perfect on both at least with my USB card reader.:)
I will update as soon as I get other things to try it with.

Very interesting, what are you planning to do with it?

There were no plug-ins only one exe file.
I want to imagine they ´ve got permision to distribute TCMPC. On the User Guide they said they included it because you need it for video stream incase you can not update to Windows Media Player 10 and also because it allows you to set the buffer size.

Any idea where can I get drivers for an old iomega USB cdrom burner?
It would be nice to read some cds from the pocket pc.
When I connected it to the usb host nothing happens as if I had never connected it.

if its old you should forget about it. in my experince i have only been able to find drivers for new devices. also, you would need a cdfs driver too....

It only have 5 years more or less. It is an USB 2.0 CDRW 48x24x48 model number cdrw55292ext. Is this a lost cause?

Just two questions I wanted to ask before buying this USB host.

1.) Will I be able to use 2.5" laptop HD (inside of USB external case) on Axim x50v with SolarExpress USB host, BUT without external power supply?

2.) Is it possible to use Toshiba 1.8" HD (used on iPod colour), which is mounted into USB external 1.8" case, on Axim x50v with SolarExpress USB host, BUT without external power supply to the disk?

Basically, I am trying to find a way how to connect at least 30 GB drive to Axim without external power and use it as my Music Player.

I am pretty sure you ´ll need external power for a 2.5" laptop HD.
The USB host current from SolarExpress PDA II is restricted to 5V@200mA max.

What about Toshiba 1.8" iPod HD then, as long as I know it requires 3.3V and I'm not sure about ampers?

Ok, some updates.

I tried a couple of webcams with afarre`s webcam.dll and it didn`t work. (1 Generic webcam don`t know the brand. 2 genius trek 300 )
After that I got my hands on a 120 gb usb HD and it worked like a charm but I had to use exernal power. The only let down was when I tried to find out the free space on the HD my axim completely froze. I guess it was to much for WM. I just had to disconnect the HD and my x50v went back to normal.

Today I tried a generic usb pendrive. :realmad: Unfortulately it didn´t work as it kept asking for a driver and the default driver usbmsd.dll (mass storage driver) said it was not the correct one.
Any idea?

Today I received an email with an update for the Solar Express USB Host.
It has some improved features for usb keyboards/keypads.
I have not tried any keyboard yet but I ´ll try one from work an see what happens.

Try wiring a 5V regulated battery supply to a USB hub.

I currently use the above with a Seagate momentum perpendiculur 2.5" HDD in a USB OTG 2.5" hard drive enclosure with builtin battery. It works find on battery and battery power! Hope this helps.
