Dell now offering the SoMo® 650-E
Dell is now showing the availability of the SoMo® 650-E Mobile Computer from Socket® Communication. :approve:

Except for the lack of a VGA screen and a dedicated GPU, it could be a worthy sucessor to the Axim X51v.
Who knows? Maybe Socket Communications will listen to users and add VGA and a dedicated GPU in future versions.

Isn't that the entire point of the "v" models... this is comparable to the non-v Axims and nothing more.

I do like its power and a few of its better specs like RAM & SDHC.
I do wish it was WM6C

Give it VGA and gfx and it's be decent enough... but I'd want more, I don`t want to be buying another device unless it has atleast twice the power of my X50v, has all the goodies and runs WM6 or later

Dell sales staff steered me to two hand helds they have been selling for a while she said, One is called pharos and the other MyPal. At this time they sell for $349. I have a small business account, so they may only sell them there. Here is a link to the MyPal http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...4&sku=A1137281
It has the better screen resolution

Looks like Dell is going to start selling everone elses devices instead of their own branded device.

The Somo 650 will get a Windows Mobile 6 Classic upgrade as well & though it lacks a VGA, it tops & matches the X51v feature wise.
With Axim gone it is the next best thing IMHO.

No VGA and no GPU means no purchase from me-especially not for 500+ US$! That thing's worth 250 US$ at most if it lacks those two important features I just outlined! And, even at that price, I'd still go back to hi-res+ Palm OS devices just from a resolution standpoint...
If only the O2 XDA Flame and Sharp EM-ONE were reasonably priced(around 600 US$ or less rather than 800-1100 US$)...they're the only viable X50v/X51v alternatives IMO, as they have VGA(or, in the EM-ONE's case, 800x480 WVGA!)screens and nVIDIA GoForce 5500 GPUs to complement the usual features.
Here's my question, though-if Dell offered a product of a certain type, why is it selling competing products? Didn't they sell all of those other devices even when the Axims were still active?

I have one on order, but can't seem to find out if they support SDHC.
If anyone finds out, please let us know.

We did find out in another thread here from Socket tech support that the Somo650 does not support SDHC devices.
