Another possible replacement besides Softmaker Office for MS Office on the Pocket PC

For all you programmers out there (yes, this means you too Axim Big Fan because you brag about you knowing a bunch of programming languages), I was thinking about porting Open Office to Windows Mobile. It's open-source, so we would be able to do this. There is a porting effort on Open Office's website (http://porting.openoffice.org/), but Windows Mobile is not listed. The individual programmers who would take part in this could share code through Aximsite. The oldest version of Windows Mobile that would have to be supported is WM 2003 (so even X5 owners can use it too). If this project works, we could have a full-blown (free) office suite that everyone can use (and possibly give Microsoft a run for it's money). I want everyone's opinions and comments on this.

Open office is java right? a java app as complex as that would probably take too much power to run on a pocket pc. It barely even runs on desktop computers.

I didn't know OO was written in Java but, yes, it's very slow.

If you had looked at the development section at Open Office.org, you would have known that Open Office is not coded in Java.

I've dreamed of OpenOffice for the Pocket PC. Heck, I'd be fine with just the Calc (Excel clone) and Writer (Word clone) portions! If I had programming skills I'd help but I don't.

Me too! I'd love to get my stickies on a WM version.
No skills in my body either, though. Wouldn't mind developing some skills, but time to put into it is an issue.
