Does anyone know if the Seiko SmartPad for PocketPC is compatible with Axim? Seiko's website doesn't even list the Dell Axim yet on its compatibility chart.

(I know, this was brought up in a previous thread, but there were no responses. )

I have been trying to get the Answer on this from Dell for the past three weeks. I tried calling the support line several times and when I finally got through they did not know what I was talking about. After repeating myself several times (they don't understand the English language very well in India) they said their would be a patch released but they did not know when. Out of curiosity, I called the sells department for Dell five different times. I told them I wanted to buy the Smartpad accessory but only if it worked with the Axim. Each one of the 5 people I spoke to did not know what a Smartpad was or that they actually sold the product. Anyway, I don't expect to see a patch anytime soon.

Yes, it should. I have one and use a Palm Vx with it. I haven't tried using my Dell with it yet. In the package you get a couple software disks. One is for PPC. It won't matter that Dell isn't listed as a supported brand... Dell's weren't out when the Smartpad came to market.

The IR protocals are standardized so I see no reason it would not work.

Try yours and see if it works. I don't think it will. I also called Seiko Instruments and they said they were waiting for a patch from Dell also. As a matter of fact, they told me to take my smartpad back to the store and get my money back before my 30 day return window ends. They said they had no idea when Dell will have a patch. They have been waiting since December.

There is an instruction pamphlet and CD for PPC software, so I'll try loading it up a little later and report back success or failure.

I wonder if some of the problem is in the Axim's IR port. It is an extremely tight beam. I've tried beaming from one of my Palm's to my Axim and you have to get the IR ports aligned very precisely for the transfer to work. The IR arm on the Smartpad points towards the middle of the PDA. Some fiddling/positioning of the Axim or the IR arm might be required...
...if the software even works...

I'll let you know...

Hi,
Does anyone have updated information on this?

Also I went to the website (http://www.siibusinessproducts.com) and there seem to be 3 possible products: the InkLink, the smartpad and the smartpad 2. Which one are we talking about? (Does the Original Smartpad only work for Palms?)

If one of these could actually be made to work with the Axim, it seems like particularly 1 of the 2 Smartpad options, it might be an interesting accessory perhaps also as a alternative to buying a better carrying case and then a larger keyboard, since it seem to come with one that is somewhere in between the size of a real keyboard and the on screen keyboard. Do you think that would be a good thing?

But does the price for a replacement pen seem excessive? (I only assume the there is one include with the product).

Thanks in advance for anything you can offer!

Originallly the Smartpad2 worked only with the Palm but it does work with the Pocket PC's now. It is made by Seiko Instruments and you can buy it from their website or at CompUSA; however, it does not work with the Axim. I returned mine because it didn't work. I called Dell, several times, and finally found someone who actually new what the product is but they indicated that I should call Seiko to find out why it doesn't work. Keep in mind that the product was sold on Dell's website for the month of January as an accessory item for the Axim. Guess what? They pulled the item off of the site...what does that tell us all??? Anyway, I called Seiko's tremendously responsive technical support staff, WHICH IS UNLIKE THE TOTALLY NON RESPONSIVE DELL TECHNICAL SUPPORT STAFF, and they said Dell must provide a patch in order for the product to work. They also advised me to return the product and re-purchase the product if Dell ever provides the patch. They have been waiting since November for the patch. So...I finally got fed up with TRYING TO GET ANY KIND OF REWARD WINNING SUPPORT FROM DELL OUT OF "INDIA" and bought an iPac. I couldn't be happier
