Exclamation Com port for game pad for Pocket PC...

I wonder if this will work to get a game pad to work with the Axim?

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PA611U

I think I will order it and see if it does. It says it will add to Pocket PC but will game recognize it or not I'm not sure.

I have two of the very small game pads that people were trying to get to work with the Axim and for $30.00 I will give it a try.

What do you people think?

Question I have the CF CARD...

I have the serial I/O CF Card from Targus. I have been unable to get the card to work with the Stinger driver. I did some investigating and there is a Brighthand post for another driver that is now a dead link.

But in the messages there was someone that said he connected the stinger to another PDA (the stinger driver version 1.0 was designed for the IPAQ by Larry Bank from BitBank Software) Today I purchased the part (Null Modem Adapter) that was mentioned in above article. That does not seem to work either.

When I have everything hooked up and start the Stinger Driver the diagnostic sceen with a picture of the Stinger opens. It says under the Pic that the port is ready but the stinger is not found! This was very frustrating so I did more seaching and found the email address of Larry Bank and sent him an email. I explained what I was trying to do and that many people on Aximsite were hoping to get this setup working!

He responded By saying that:

Chuck,

My stinger program is hardcoded to use COM1 since this is the only available port on most CE devices. Find out what COM port is provided by your card and I will build you a new version.

Larry B.

This was GREAT news! I emailed Targus with his question and asked them to send me any technical information they have (PDF?) or anything else. That is where this project stands. IF Larry will spend some time on this for US at AXIMSITE we should get this thing working very soon!

If any of you have any additional suggestions I could try please post here or PM me.

There is a driver around that iPaq users have always had great success with. Here is a link to it in a BrightHand thread (attached to the 2nd post on the page): Click Here For Link.

Just unzip, and copy the .exe over to your PPC. As I said, it works fine for iPaq users, but not sure about any other PDAs. I know for certain that it doesn't work with Axim/serial-cable. I've also custom made a cable to hook straight into the bottom-port of the connector (tried with and without RS232C TTL convertor), and attach to a regular PC gameport gamepad with no success with any of the PPC drivers out there.

However, I have not had a chance to try with one of the Serial CF cards. So best of luck to you, and let us know how it turns out.

Question That is the driver...

I'm working with deftech, it does not work in its current configuation. Larry Bank said the driver was hard coded for com1, it does not work with the adapter and Larry thinks it is using another port. I have talked with Targus and they did not know what port.

Because the item is OLD (more than 6 months?) they did not have the information handy! They said a more senior person will get back with me to give me the information. One tech rep guessed it used com3 BUT DID NOT KNOW!

I don't want to guess and waist Larry Banks time. They should get back to me on Monday 10/13/03.

There are programs out there to tell you what ports are available on a given PPC, run it without the card and see which ports are listed, plug in the card and run it again to see which port is new (the port it uses).

Put the url into www.waybackmachine.org maybe it has an archive of the site. Also, Larry Bit Bank wrote an article on creating a driver to interface the stinger on Brighthand.com, it might be in one of the archives of the site on the way back machine(it's gone on the orginal site now).

But I still can't seem to get the stinger to work. The new driver says "stinger not found" just like the original driver!

Any suggestions on what might be wrong??

Larry Bank coded this driver for com 5 what the CF card driver reads it is set at.
