I just found this link to an interesting product. http://store.yahoo.com/gomadic-new/delaxx5adtom.html

I've never heard of this company before, but they apparently have a cable to connect the Axim to many different types of cell phones, including the one I use, the Motoroloa i1000 with Nextel.

Looks interesting. Anyone know anything about this company or product?

They also have a cable that allows you to connect the Axim to a USB port on the computer, and to sync/charge without needing a separate power cord.

I've been watching this product for a few months. I was going to get one for my iPAQ, but when the Dell came out, I decided just to wait. I'm glad to hear they've made a Dell compatible model.

Has anyone out there used one of these? They don't seem too popular; I've checked eBay from time to time and never seen a single one.

How do you pay for internet access? Is it an add-on fee for Nextel, or do you use another provider? (My cell service is SprintPCS.)

I've heard that viewing the internet on a handheld isn't nearly the same as on a PC. But are you able to go on a site like eBay, do a search for an item, and view the results using your Axim/Nextel setup? How about going to Yahoo or Hotmail and viewing e-mail?

Yeah I am very interested to know more about this product as well. Who is the provider of the internet and how easy it is to go on the internet and what does it cost (any monthly bills)?

Wondering what speeds you get with the cable connection? Have you benchmarked it yet? I use Irda to hook up to my samsung s105, but it is too slow to surf effectively.

Woth Sprint, you'd have to have Wireless Web (14.4 k) or Vision (50-70k) to use internet.

Cool - This is exactly what I was looking for. My office has a dial-up service that should allow me to be able to do an Active Sync with my desktop at work while traveling.

I contacted the Gomadic customer care folks via email to inquire about my phone, the Sanyo SCP-4900. I have my service through Sprint PCS. The picture is not as nice for my phone. Read Gomadic's response below.

I'm afraid we will never have Wireless Internet Cables available for the Sanyo 4900. Our cables require serial communication for data transfer. Many new phones on the "next generation" networks have switched from serial to USB pins in the baseport of the phone. Because of this, our cables will not work. In fact, the way that USB works, it is unlikely that there will ever be a cable solution that will link thsese phones to PDA's. USB requires all devices to be tagged as USB Hosts or USB Peripherals. The phones and PDA's are always tagged as USB peripherals whereas PC/Laptops are always USB Hosts. With USB, you can never have two USB peripherals talking directly to each other, therefore, making a cable solution more complex.

There is one solution, however, that works great on Sprint's Vision network. The LG5350 has both Serial and USB pins on the baseport making it 100% compatible with the ComCube. In fact, we have tested the LG5350 and have seen data speeds ranging from 56Kbps to over 100Kbps. Best of all, right now Sprint is offering unlimited data access with Vision, so you can have unlimited, high speed, wireless Internet access to any PDA or laptop with our ComCube. What a solution!

I received my Gomadic cable on Tuesday, and within 10 minutes I had my Axim and LG5350 (SprintPCS) phone up and operating. The local number to program was #2932. Surfing the internet and checking hotmail is cool!
