Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone tried using the Griffin Total IR Remote with the Axim or at all with any other PDAs. I'm thinking about trying it out, but it costs $30 plus s/h. It connects through the audio output jack and that it should, therefore, create a stronger signal than regular remotes. Does anyone know of any other IR products I should look into? Here's a link to it <http://www.griffintechnology.com/griffinmobile/totalremote/index.html>.

Thanks,
JEJ

I heard on another forum that they aren't compatible with the Axim, but Griffin is working on an update of some sort.

I found this on Dell's Axim Technical message board

<http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dellpda&message.id=1154&v iew=by_date_ascending&page=2>

"For anyone thinking of ordering the Total Remote product from Griffin Mobile with the headphone based IR Gizmo, DON'T!

Not only is the built in IrDA on the Axim one of the weakest, Griffin Mobile has just confirmed that the Axim is not compatible with their module because the Axim also has a sub-standard audio amplifier for the headphone jack. Griffin has said that they might come out with a CF card transmitter in the future. If they do, then the Axim will be supported.

You'll get about 5 ft. with the built in IrDA and only about 8-10 feet with the addon IR Transmitter. Most other PPC's tested will go 40-60ft with the transmitter."

I'm also going to get a response from Griffin Mobile. I'll post that when I receive it if it's anything more new.

Also, there is a Compact Flash card from a different company that works with the Axim at <http://www.ultramote.com/extender.php>.

That's it for now,
JEJ
