Which Keyboard?
I need to buy a keyboard for my X5 and would like to know if someone has had a good experience with one that they can recommend? I was thinking of the Dell, but it is not wireless. However, the stand feature is pretty cool. Also, can you use a wireless keyboard for something else or are they PDA specific?

Thanks!

I have had a very good experience with Dell's folding keyboard. It's more sliding than folding, however. The keys are not fixed on very firmly, so they can fall off, but if you lose a key, you call Dell and they send you a new one under the Advance Exchange warranty. It is not wireless, but so what? And if you get a non-dell one, it would have to be wireless, because the port on the bottom of the Axim is pretty much unique. So my reccomendation is to get the keyboard. The Dell one, that is. And you can also plug the power adapter into the left-top-corner of the keyboard, so you can charge with the keyboard in place.

The Dell is not wireless, true, but in some ways that is an advantage. I really like the foldable keyboard: it is sturdy enough to open on your lap and type (in case you are not at a desk or a table), it holds the axim securely while you type, and there's no worry about making sure your keyboard batteries are OK. You can use it while your axim is plugged in, if you'd like, and you can use while your axim is in many popular cases. The keys are pretty good sized, the action is decent, and it works well (except that the up-arrow key and the right shift should be switched -- takes some getting used to).

One drawback is that there is no way to use landscape mode while you're typing.

I don't have much experience with wireless keyboards, but I can recommend the Dell foldable one.

This is what I found from looking at these wireless keyboards.

Belkin
They make one but I have no information.

Targus
18mm, 66 keys, folded(hxwxd) 5.6x4.2x1in, open 11.2x4.2x0.28in
12.3oz, $60, PA870

Stowaway, Think Outside
18mm, 50 keys, arrow keys, folded(hxwxd) 5.5x3.8x0.7in, open 9.9x5.8x0.5in, 5.8oz, $70

Pocketop, Micro Innovations
17mm, 50 keys, arrow keys, screen rotation, folded(hxwxd) 4.7x3.3x0.6in, open 9.2x3.3x0.4in, 4.2oz, $

Dell (not wireless)
66 keys, folded(hxwxd) 5.8x3.8x0.7in, open 9.8x7.0x2.9in
7.2oz, $60

I favor the Stowaway model. It has some keys that make using the Ax easier and the keys are almost full size.

The Targus is $44.99 at Amazon.com. It is very well constructed, nice key travel, axim fits in landscape or portrait mode, has a neat mouse on the keyboard, that doubles as arrow keys, and will work with any PDA or Palm you pair it with.

Obviously, I'm happy with mine!

Belkin Keyboard
If you're interested in info about the Belkin keyboard, you can find it at http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=144042

Use coupon code 35491, and the price is just $30.00 (that's 50% off). They will get you on the shipping though ($12.75).

Thanks, I wish there was somewhere you could try out the keyboards before you buy. Oh well...

Pocketop, Micro Innovations

That's my two cents.
It's small, cheap, universal (one of the few things that will stay with me if I change pda) uses standard AAA batteries.
It's good enough to tipe on your lap.
And now that there is a sw for landscape mode on PPC2003 it's even easier to use.

I've had the Targus and I gave it away.

Nico

PS: I got my NEW MicroInn. keyboard off ebay for $12!!!!

Maybe u should pre-order the new Laser Keyboard that's almost hit the stores! It only costs $100 and is a superb piece of hardware. Google it for more info.

I just checked Amazon, it is $59.99 and on back order;
I found an iConcepts for $44.99!

MAN this is so cool.
$100 bucks it's not even impossible as a price. (Although I don't have them ;-))
I wonder how it will work.
I heard it doesn't really work in full light.
Plus certanly you cannot use it on your lap.

Looking forward to see some demo at Radio Shack

Since when is the Pocketop keyboard's rotation software compatible with WM2003? I just checked their site and it indicates that the rotation software does not work with 2003. If you have drivers that enable it in 2003, please PM me. Thanks!

Here it is.
http://www.dotpocket.com
It's not perfect. I already contacted them for several issue.
But is't good enough for typing a document.
Definetly worth the money.

I think the only defect of the MI keyboard is that mirror that is suppose to send the IR from the keyboard to the PDA.
Somehow it's very hard to use with the X5. Well now that I can rotate the screen there is no problem because the IR from the X5 and the kb are 1cm apart.
I'll also pm, but this is in case someone else is interested.

I tryed to contat IM and ask if they would include the dotpocket sw in the keyboard in the future. They never replied.

But still $12 for the kb + $20 for the SW is worth the money for me.
