You will find a lot of discussions about screen protectors on this site, from homemade (using transparencies) to high-end (WriteShield and BoxWave ClearTouch). Passions seems to run high when it comes to screen protectors, keyboards, cases, and rebates.

The Dell protectors weren't available as an aftermarket item without jumping through hoops. otherwise I might have tried them. Overall the jury is split on these. Love and hate -- nothing in the middle -- so I decided to avoid them.

I'll admit it. I tried the home-made version (there's a link to a template in several of the postings), and promptly threw them out.

Then, continuing to go cheap, I tried NuShield and a second brand. They are also in the garbage. They both took a lot of effort to install, and the results just didn't justify their use.

I finally decided to spend the money and go with a high-quality screen protector. For me, it was a tossup between the BoxWave ClearTouch protectors and the WriteShields. I chose the ClearTouch, and I like the anti-glare screen and the feel with the stylus. They fulfill the dual purpose of protecting my investment without detracting from its functionality. They (I bought the 3-pack) look like they are going to be durable and worth the money.

I am currently using the WriteShields from Pocketpctechs. I love them. They go on easily using the bathroom trick with no or little dust in between the protector and the screen. So far I have used the current on for about a month with no scratches, so hopefully I will be able to use it for quite some time. In the long run, if they last as long as they say they can, it is definitely worth the money.

I am still using the transparency screen protectors, primarily because they are "free" (or close to it if you already have transparencies handy). They work well, but don't last long and don't help with glare at all. I am sure I will move up to one of the better screen protectors, but I am waiting to read the rest of the review trilogy on this site before I decide.

I have tried a couple of methods, inclding getting a hold of the dell brand, and using transparency etc. and what I've decided is this:

1) it causese problems when it gets dusty as it traps dust inbetween them usually
2) the tab that goes under the sides of the screen, if there's the slightest amount of dust in there, ameks touching the frame touch the screen.
3) I realized I didn't actually care that much about scratches
4) I hve no intentions of reselling

after 3 and 4 I realzied that If I keep the screen and stylus clean, I won't get that many scratches anyway, and cleaning was a task I had to do with or without protectors, so I go with none of the above.

Honestly, a few microscopic scracthes yo have to turn the screen off, and strain your eyes to see isn't that big of a concern for everyday use...

I know that you're waiting for the rest of the reviews to decide which one to get. However, consider the fact that the Brando protectors can be bought for about 8 bucks, are a treat to write on, and are tough as nails. I use them for mine and as long as you apply them carefully (no dust [scotch tape, canned air, and microfiber cloth are a godsend], and applied perfectly straight) you will barely notice that there is even a screen protector there. Beat that.

Brando Workshop
I second the recommendation of the Brando Workshop screen protectors. I have been using their screen protector for almost 2 years. I had a Clie 760 before my Axim, and had used about 3 different types of screen protectors (all of which were a pain to apply, and required changing after a few months use). I then ordered a Brando protector for my Clie. I applied it in one quick swipe, no readjusting at all. It was much smoother/easier to write on than others, and handwriting recognition improved a lot with it on the Clie. Also, I used the SAME original Brando screen protector for the entire almost 2 years until i recently got my Axim. Anytime it got dirty or anything, I simply removed it and washed in sink. It was just as easy to reapply it as the first time I put it on the screen. Just recently I ordered one for my Axim, and it is just as great as the one I had for my Clie. Applied perfectly and evenly with just a single application. No bubbles or any defects at all. I recommend anyone looking for a good screen protector to give Brando Workshop's protector a shot. I wasn't aware of the ExecutivePDA site until I read this post. They seem to have better prices at $8.99 including shipping, but I have no experience ordering from them. I have ordered both of mine, and a few other products straight from Brando's company in Hong Kong. The website is http://shop.brando.com.hk. The screen protectors cost $12.00 including shipping from them. I have received each order from them in between 2 - 6 days from my order placement. Not bad at all, especially considering it's coming from Hong Kong. Hope this helps someone make a decision for a screen protector. If not, they also have a few other cool items on their site, although not much for the Axim yet.

I've had a good experience with executivepda.com. They were priced well and shipped quick. I'd buy from them again.

BOXWAVE
For what it's worth, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the BOXWAVE screen protectors. I just received mine in the mail on Friday and LOVE THEM!!!!!! They are the perfect addition to my axim. I find that they actually improve the recognition of the transcriber software and really take the glare away from the unit.

Just my two cents worth...

No one said that the WriteShield Protectors are $29.99 for the standard and the $39.99 for the deluxe?!?! eek! When did plastic get so expensive?

Does anyone prefer the deluxe over the standard or vice versa?

The main difference is that the delux set comes with a bottle of cleaning solution. So if you do not really care about that, go with the standard.
