Transfer palm address book

I don't mean to be negative about this web site, I just love it. The problem is that there is lots of information passing around from people who give advice based on how things should work, but actually havn't had first hand experience. I need to transfer my address book from my palm pilot to my Axim.

All I hear is, just beam it over. Well, that just doesn't work.
Other advice suggests using Outlook. If you have personally had success, please tell me how. I checked out my Outlook 2000 and cannot see where you can sync to the Axim or Palm.

First hand experience only please. Thank you in advance,

Richard,

I HAVE personally transferred every contact/task/appointment/etc from my old Sony Clie (Palm OS) to my Axim when I got it last month. Also, I did use Outlook 2000 to do this. ActiveSync (which comes with the Axim) automatically syncs with Outlook for you, so all you have to do is get the info from the Palm into Outlook on your computer. To do this, there is a setting in the hotsync software from your Palm (mine used IntelliSync, not sure about yours) that will allow it to sync with Outlook. Once you've changed that setting, the next time you hit the hotsync button, all the info from the palm will be put into outlook. Now, just sync the Axim, and it will go from Outlook to the Axim. Simple as that.

Also, if Hotsync doesn't do it, there should be a program on the Palm CDROM called PocketMirror that will sync a Palm to Outlook. Then you can sync the Axim to Outlook and the stuff will transfer. That's how I got my wife's Palm moved to her PPC.

What I did was export the contact data from the palm desktop to a windows comma separated file and then import the file into outlook. When importing the file into outlook it will prompt you to define which field goes where in Outlook so you can tweak exactly where each line goes.
