If the PXA250 C1 is the newer chip, I got it. I ordered and had my Axim X5 400 mhz shipped in early March. When I checked it through File Explorer under sysinfo it states Intel PXA250 400 MHz C1. However, if I go through the Start page, to Settings, then tap on System (bottom menu), and finally tap the About icon, I get the processor description as Intel PXA250 (says nothing about the C1). But it looks like I did get the C1. Maybe many of you who ordered in March actually did get the C1 upgrade and don't know it?

I returned the one I had(which was a PXA250 B2-defective)and when I got the replacement, they sent me the C1. Maybe you guys can try this too.

I also had the B2 originally and got the C1 as a replacement. Unfortunately I'm exchanging it again. Stupid d-pad.

You are right. I didn't know how to check the Sysinfo page under File Explorer... but when I followed your suggestion, yup, there it is, big as life: PXA250 400 MHz C1

To tell you the truth, I made this discovery about "sysinfo" (or stumbled on it would be more accurate) by accident - blind luck! But I'm sure glad I did as I was getting bummed out thinking I had missed the C1 when I ordered. This had me puzzled as someone else had posted a couple weeks back and had ordered an Axim when I did. He had received it with the C1. So, nice to know that some of us indeed lucked out.

In your Axim's Explorer:
- My Device
-> My Documents folder
--> SysInfo folder
and tap on the SysInfo text file and look at line 2 CPU:

I got my Axim yesterday, it said it on the Box, I forget the wording, it even had an abreviation that looked like the codeword the soon to be released Packard Bell/HP IPAQ uses for the intel PXA255 chip. I think they mentioned those specs on pocketpcthoughts.com

Damn I just followed those instruction and find that my Axim has the B2 chip....arghhh!
What should I do to get the upgraded one?
are there specific problems I need to look for to see if it is having problems I have not noticed yet?
I have only had this unit for a month and a half so I dont want to be stuck with sub standard madness.
Other than that I love it.

Now how much better is the C1 over the B2?

Well, Dell has a standard return policy of 30 days. And the way they've been... I'd wager that perhaps if you sweet-talked them, they might even extend that if you ordered the new one at the same time.

HOWEVER, again, the speed increase is supposed to be a nominal 20%. How effective is that overall? Probably not much. My impression is you will not notice the difference.

Of course, if I had the B2 I might be complaining to Dell as well just on the principle of the thing (it sounds like you ordered yours about the same time I ordered mine). So if it really bugs you, I'd call Dell and explain. They've been pretty responsive to my missives.

some1 on the brighthand boards posted the benchmarks of the b2 and c1, the difference is very small between the 2, i dont think its worth waiting for my new axim to come.

If I don't misunderstand them, those stats you presented actually showed the C1 running slower than the B2. I would therefore have to question the parameters of that benchmark test.
